Let's Do The News! (May 31, 2013)

River's Diary

Right, what's the news today you spoiler-laden TARDIS journal?

The topic about banning softdrinks and junk food at your cafeteria

A couple of days ago, I saw something at the news that most schools in the Philippines are considering banning softdrinks and other forms of junk food sold in their cafeterias. Well, of course, because school starts this Monday in most schools in the Philippines, the officials are taking things seriously about preventing their cafeterias from selling softdrinks and junk food. I mean, what will exactly happen when this was in effect? Well, as many experts can tell you that both softdrinks and junk food are bad for everyone and banning those will help solve obesity...but is it worth it? I believe not because most of us can't resist the temptation of those we ate and drank everyday during recess time. Wow...

COMING SOON: The Ninth-Generation Accord

Next month, Honda Motor Co., Ltd will be releasing the much-awaited ninth-generation Honda Accord and it is essentially available ONLY in sedan with the hybrid-powertrain only. Yep, the next-generation Accord will be a hybrid-only saloon, just like the Toyota Camry two years ago. Also, aside from being a full-hybrid sedan, it will be the first to implement Honda's SPORT HYBRID i-MMD (Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive), which has three distinct driving modes to choose from; EV Drive allows the car to run on pure electric mode, Engine Drive that is suitable for medium to high speeds. and Hybrid Drive lets both the electric motor and the gasoline engine join forces in case of heavy acceleration and stop-and-go city driving.

SPORT HYBRID i-MMD implementation to the all-new 2014 Honda Accord promises a JC08 fuel economy of 30.0km/L, making it the most fuel efficient car in the lineup and it's much more fuel efficient than the Honda Insight.

Look for more about the all new Accord when it launches this June 20, 2013 and on sale the day after it launches at your nearest Honda Cars dealership.

The fourth Transformers movie maybe not due until next year but there's going to be new Autobot recruits in the corner as well as new looks for our favorite Autobots Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.

Yep. That's definitely more than meets the eye because the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and the Bugatti Veyron will be joining the Autobots and then...

Bumblebee is now a modified 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS. Hmmm...too old-fashioned but cool!

Third-generation BMW X5 revealed

2014 BMW X5

BMW finally revealed the new generation of the founder of the SPORT ACTIVITY VEHICLE craze, the BMW X5. Look at this new look...hideous isn't it? The headlamp+kidney grille combo was fine on the latest 3-Series but here in the new X5...oh boy. Looks like another village idiot in the family of geniuses, eh? But there's more to it than that because at launch, it will be offered in three engines: a 3.0-liter turbo straight six, a 4.4-liter turbo V8, and an all-new 3.0-liter turbo diesel straight six you can expect on the hot X5 M50d. For the first time, an optional rear-wheel drive powertrain was offered alongside with the traditional 4WD configuration.

MAZDA BIANTE SKYACTIV

Back in 2008, Mazda launched the Biante exclusively for the Japanese market. Then, a year later, moments after Mazda introduced i-stop to their second-generation Axela, the Biante also gets the i-stop system for enhanced fuel economy. Now, just after Mazda filling up the SKYACTIV portfolio with the Demio, the Axela, the CX-5, the Atenza, and the Premacy, the Biante (and its stylish Biante Granz) joins the SKYACTIV family. Like the Premacy SKYACTIV a couple of months ago, the new Biante SKYACTIV is offered in SKYACTIV 2.0 G engine which comes with direct injection and mated with SKYACTIV-DRIVE double clutch transmission. Fuel economy is now 14.8km/L based on JC08 Mode standards.
