My FH5 Log: File B9

Almost a decade ago while playing the original Forza Horizon on my XBOX 360, I sampled the Audi RS4 Avant B8 and I got hooked by its moves as well as its naturally-aspirated V8 engine that sounds like the old BMW M3 Coupe. Life was nearly cool for this high-performance wagon back then.


Now, the B9-spec Audi RS4 Avant has arrived as a prize car obtained from the Series 8 Hot Season Playlist and looks like it's time to move on from the practical party pooper and into the all-out slugfest that is ready to slug through any ball game like a real baller.


So, what's it all about the Audi RS4 Avant B9?


Unlike its B8 predecessor, the Audi RS4 Avant B9 replaced the old model's V8 engine with the 2.9 TFSi V6 BiTurbo engine derived from the second-generation RS5. It produces 450PS of power and 600Nm of torque while mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission. It does 0-100kph in 4.1 seconds and it has a governed top speed of 250kph but it can be bumped up to 280kph with an optional extra.


As expected, the RS4 Avant B9 feels mild and tangy while in the middle of a "twist and shout" session on the road, probably because it doesn't have the wonderful feature that today's BMW M5 had. What this means, is this wagon on mild steroids prefers to grip rather than letting all out in the handling department. I guess Audi is very serious about their high-performance machines; they want to behave like normal Audis but in a big and exciting kind of way, Long story short but you get the picture.

Having expressed my disappointment over the RS4 Avant B9's mild driving feel, I was going to call it quits...unless there's a way to appreciate this model. With that...



Using my stylist skills, this RS4 Avant was given a thumbs-up approach, or to put it in Nino's context; MARS! See what I did? MARS!


With the out-of-context "insert Martian joke here" approach done, my RS4 is ready for the slugfest it will never forget. Send in the tape!

Well-sculpted proportions, mild driving feel, turbocharged V6 engine, quattro all-wheel-drive, the RS4 Avant B9 is a slugger that needs to be appreciated as much as its B8 predecessor. Sure, it doesn't have the raw charm of its predecessor and the competition alike but it sure loves a good ball game in the end. Although not a wise choice for the fun-loving Festival participants, the RS4 B9 is quite a rising star of the show.

Guess I'm going to take a few painkillers after this. As expected, the grip is so cringy. Huhehe...

Audi RS4 Avant B9

The previous RS4 Avant is one heck of a brilliant Audi because even though for an everyday wagon, it looks and feels absolutely sexy as well as its animalistic V8 engine ever roared. We all missed that RS4 Avant and now, Audi unveiled the all-new model which is based on the Audi A4 B9 Avant model.

So, what's new on the B9-spec RS4 Avant, per se? Pay attention because what's under the hood is disturbing and it is. The old model's V8 engine has been thrown away to the great junkyard in the sky and in place lies the same 2.9 TFSi V6 BiTurbo engine that you get in today's RS5. That means, it produces 450PS of power and 600Nm of torque while mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission. It does 0-100kph in 4.1 seconds, which is slightly quicker than the one it replaces while it can do a governed top speed of 250kph but it can be bumped up to 280kph by request, which pretty much is the same as the old one if I'm honest.

Sure, the new model has been quite an improvement from the old one apart from the added power from the small V6 turbo engine and replacing the 7-speed DCT with an 8-speed AT because some enthusiasts are unhappy with it, but what's unhappy about the new RS4 is the sound of it and thanks to the downsized engine, it's less shouty than the old model it replaces and you get the impression that it sounds like driving an ordinary estate that you normally use on a day-to-day basis, including shopping. Disappointing the sounds are, the new RS4's dynamics are rather mild indeed, even though it was improved from the ground up thanks to the platform it uses, resulting in a lighter and more rigid ride compared to the previous model.

On normal roads, the RS4 is pretty much civilized on the road because that's how Audis are made, perhaps no wonder some people won't want to be with someone driving an Audi for reasons known only to themselves, perhaps they don't call them entertaining or amusing, but when taken on the track, this is where the serious bit kicks in because even with the dynamic settings on, driving the new RS4 is like getting pummeled by a bear drinking Stella Artois. Remember, this car doesn't have that wonderful feature like the one from the Ford Focus RS, which means it's going to behave pretty much like a front-wheel-drive car and if you're too little, too late, you're be seeing stretch marks on your arms after this.

So much for a 79,800 Euro high-performance wagon but despite all that mild and tangy dynamics, it still works like a wagon should. It even has some room for some groceries and some stuff you bought at the thrift store and some seats for your mates, even families who are sticking with the one-child policy. Still, it's inappropriate to be called a family car because of the pricing, but the RS4 Avant is all about being the jack of all trades, all work and all play like when the world's gone mad thanks to the principle of Murphy's Law.

Fancy a super Audi wagon? No thanks. I'll just stick to the E63 Estate for the time being because it won't give me some stretch marks on my arms.

Audi A4 (B9) allroad

Now, let's talk sport utility wagons. Sure, they maybe classified as crossovers just as what compact hatchback-based ones did, but in reality, they're really station wagons with some added claddings on the outside as well as added ground clearance to make it look tough and rugged but in general, they're just part of their daily routine. Even luxury car companies got mixed into them to sell sport utility wagons to those who believe that a normal station wagon just isn't enough to satisfy their everyday lifestyles.

One such example of how luxury car companies selling such kind of wagons designated as crossovers is this; the brand new Audi A4 allroad. First and foremost, this is basically an Audi A4 B9 Avant, only this time with some added cladding to look tough and rugged as well as the added ground clearance to make it sound adventurous when taken on the great outdoors. With prices start at 41,700 Euros, that's about over ten grand more than its Avant equivalent but that doesn't stop them from having one of these in their garage right now. Although costly to own than the Avant, it's priced for those who couldn't afford the A6 allroad.

For a tougher side of the A4 Avant, the new A4 allroad with its clever stuff lurking underneath its rugged looks really makes it very capable to handle almost any kind of road conditions as long as the mud isn't problematic enough to get the others stuck on the road and the frozen roads isn't slippery enough to turn them into figure skaters. On normal roads, it behaves like a saloon; comfortable but a little less exciting to soothe your brows all the way home, but when taken to a leisurely ride on the great outdoors, it's all business as usual even when it has unfinished business to deal with.

There are numerous versions available on the new Audi A4 allroad but the most powerful version is obviously the one with the 3.0L TDi engine with the 8-speed gearbox, a first for the A4 allroad. It produces 272PS of power and 600Nm of torque. It can go from 0-100kph in 5.5 seconds and electronically limited to 250kph. Sounds quick for a crossover but it can be somewhat idiotic and irrelevant for a car that has a sweet spot lying in deceit for the kids in the back. Speaking of the sweet spot, rest assured that it wasn't meant to be a family car because if you have three kids and readying the child seats, you might ruin someone's "sweet spot" for the heck of it. Although this five seater wasn't meant to be used for family trips, the A4 allroad is a fitting for the outdoorsman going into the woods and with that spacing on the back, it fits most of the leisurely stuff an outdoorsman would go for such as hiking, biking, fishing, camping, or even hunting wild animals. Whichever floats their kayak, the A4 allroad is a luxury crossover wagon fit for almost anything through the ends of the earth.

Tempting? Well, if you got some extra cash and if you believe that the A4 Avant wasn't enough, best to buy one right now before anyone else would because crossovers are all the rage right now.

Audi S4 B9

Based on the brand new and more technologically advanced Audi A4, the semi-high performance variant, the S4, in saloon and Avant versions, may have lost some of the charm points from its previous model, such as the loss of the manual gearbox and supercharger, but it's got AMG's C43 range in its crosshairs. So, is it better than before?

At first glance, the brand new S4 looks very identical to the normal A4 but when you notice some subtle changes on the exterior and interior to make it look semi-sporty but by stark observation, it's catered to be as elite as an honor student at a very prestigious academy. Remind you of any?

Anyway, once you're done digging out what's new, in and out, what's underneath is what matters because for the new model, the 3.0L TFSi engine loses its supercharger, resulting to become a turbocharged semi-high performance vehicle which a very average sound that makes you wanna go "hmmm". No bark though but the power output of 354PS of power and 500Nm is pretty impressive for a turbocharged engine but it's still short of power compared to Mercedes-AMG's C43. Still, could be worse, the only offering of an 8-speed tiptronic gearbox is one gear short compared to the C43's 9G-TRONIC as well. While it maybe restricted to 250kph, the 0-100kph time is now 4.7 seconds, which is vaguely the same as the C43's but get this; because the S4, like the A4, is utilized on an MQB platform like all good VW Group machines, it's 60kg less than the C43, resulting to combined fuel consumption of 7.4L/100km, compared to the C43's 7.8L/100km. How's that for a semi-high performance car?

As a light car compared to the C43, the new S4, with its signature quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, is a potent multirole that can handle through bends with mildness, even when it feels under the weather. Because it's lower than the base A4, courtesy of its sport-tuned suspension, its low center of gravity results to even better handling but it's still basically milder in body language and if you can sense its understeering woes, hope you got your painkillers ready because this going be an achy-breaky feeling.

Should you buy it? The S4 is priced at 59,300 Euros for the saloon while the Avant is priced at 61,150 Euros, competitively priced to the AMG C43 range, and while it produces less power than the C43, the S4, despite the loss of its supercharger and manual gearbox, still works like what a semi-high performance should and while this is classified as a sports car, it's still a luxury car ticking all the right touches in partial terms of endearment. Is it better than before? Don't be silly but it's a good fun finding out.

Audi A4 B9

The newly regenerated Audi A4 is now bigger than its predecessor and it's now more technologically advanced than ever because of its plethora of gadgetry installed to this new model. Let's take a gander on one of the most technologically advanced luxury midsize saloons ever made, shall we?

Like the previous model, the all-new Audi A4 comes with two different variations; the saloon version and the spacious Avant version for those who are in a mood for lifestyle checks. Under the hood, the new A4 comes with a revamped choice of engines such as a 1.4 TFSi, the 2.0 TFSi, 2.0 TDi, and a 3.0 TDi. The most powerful version of the A4 for now is the one with the 2.0L TFSi engine that produces 252PS of power and 370Nm of torque. 0-100kph takes under 5.8 seconds and onwards to an electronically-limited top speed of 250kph. In most models, a 6-speed manual is standard but an optional 7-speed S tronic gearbox is offered.

Despite its added size, the all-new A4, thanks to VW's MQB platform that has been around in major models since the VW Golf VII in 2012, is surprisingly lighter than the previous model so in partial terms of dynamics, it's well improved over the previous model but not as dynamically sharp as the 3-Series and the C-Class. Of course, the A4 still offered with a choice of either front-wheel drive or allroad permanent all-wheel drive, which has been the hallmark of all Audis since the dawn of civilization. Having a quattro on this new A4 is good if you're feeling on the weather but in dynamic terms, it feels tad mild. Easy to drive but a little less exciting, if you know what I mean?

Although, the new A4 is not as exciting as its rivals because while this is purely a luxury saloon with a mild driving feel that most Audis had, it's surprisingly roomier, more comfortable, and very high-tech indeed. From the MMI, voice recognition, HUD, Audi connect, and the new Virtual Cockpit display as seen on the new TT, the new A4 feels like the future really is now thanks to science and technology but what's even more bizarre is the host of safety tech that will make you notice this car a little further. Of course, with Audi has been well-known for being one of the most technologically-advanced luxury carmaker in the world, the new A4 is one heck of a tech overload. Hard to master each tech but the more the driver is familiar with the features, the more he or she will take advantage in various situations.

So, should you buy one? The new Audi starts at 30,650 EUR for the saloon while the Avant version starts at 36,900 EUR. Sounds reasonably priced for a luxury car but they're much costly to own than a BMW 3-Series, which is more engaging and more dynamic to drive than this. Still, with the new A4, Audi has a lot of stepping stones to tackle because this is probably one of the most important models to deal with.

Forza 4: Who let the A4's out?

Oh, look who's booked in at the Top Gear Test Track on Forza Motorsport 4. It's those high-performance variants of the Audi A4 through the years. The S4 B5, the S4 B6, the RS4 B7, and the  S4 B8, those were high-performance models of the Audi A4 through the years but those cars are arguing that which one is better. To settle those differences, my inner Stigness send me to lap these cars round the Top Gear track one by one by one to find out which of these "A4 on steroids" is the best...

Let's start with the S4 B5




Based on the Typ 8D (B5) A4, the S4 succeeds from the first Audi C4 S4 when it was debuted in 1997 as part of the Audi A4 B5 minor change.

The B5 S4 is equipped with a 2.7L V6 twin-turbo engine which includes a cast iron cylinder block with two aluminum alloy cylinder heads. This engine produces 265PS of power and 400Nm of torque while mated with a 6-speed C90 manual transmission.

The sedan version was launched in 1997 while the station wagon variant, called the S4 Avant, was launched a year later. In 1999, the B5 S4 went on sale on the USA. Production ended in 2011 although it was sold alongside the A4 B6 through 2002 in North America.

The S4 B5 also makes motorsport history when this is the car of choice for Michael Galati at the 2001 SpeedVision World Challenge where he won the GT title in a Champion Racing S4, winning 4 races and made it to its first manufacturer's Championship.

Now it's the B6's turn...




Following with the success of the B5 S4, the S4 model is now based on the Audi B6 A4, which was based on the Volkswagen Group B6 (PL46) platform. It was available in saloon, Avant, and Cabriolet.

For this model, the S4 B6 comes with the 4.2L V8 engine that can go 0 to 60mph in 5.6 seconds  in the saloon with manual transmission (Avant 5.8 s, Cabriolet 5.9 s) but American car magazine Motor Trend managed to make the S4 B6 go from 0 to 60 in less than five seconds.

In the USA, the S4 B6 was subjected to the $1,700 gas guzzler tax (combined 20.2 miles per US gallon (11.6 L/100 km; 24.3 mpg-imp)) for the six-speed manual sedan.

Next up, the RS4 B7




The first RS4 was introduced in 1999 and went on sale in 2000 as an Avant-only model. From its discontinuation in 2001, Audi produced 6030 RS4 Avant models.

In 2005, the RS4 returned and it was based on the B7 Audi A4. It was available in the European public in mid 2006 and later in North America and up to its discontinuation in 2008, 10,000 units were made. It was available in three body variants; a sedan, an Avant, and a Cabriolet version.

Powered by a 4.2L FSi V8 engine and mated with a 6-speed manual transmission, the RS4 can accelerate from 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds while top speed is normally limted to 155mph.

The B7 RS4 marks a departure from the Audi RS cars tradition (where the previous RS 4 and RS 2 were available exclusively as Avants.) ever since the first Audi RS6. Unique features of the B7 RS4 are the smaller, flat bottomed steering wheel (complete with "Sport" button), Recaro shell-type race bucket seats with electrically inflatable upper and lower side bolsters, and carbon-ceramic brakes.

In Top Gear Season 7 Episode 2, Jeremy Clarkson races the RS4 against mountain climbers at the French Alps and in the end, the mountain climbers defeated the RS4. It went round the Top Gear Test track in 01:25.7.

In Top Gear Season 10 finale, James May drove the RS4 while Jeremy Clarkson's in the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and Richard Hammond's in the BMW M3 at the Ascari Race Resort in Spain.



The RS4 did it in 1:23.201, meaning not only I beat Stig's record, it beats the other two but would that lap time be more than enough to be beaten by the current-generation Audi S4 B8? Let's find out...




From the moment the Audi B8 A4 was launched in the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, this model is now based on the Volkswagen Group MLB/MLP platform. A year later, Audi has launched an S4 model which was based on the current B8 A4.

Beginning with the B8, the saloon and Avant version was available while the convertible variant was replaced by the Audi S5 Cabriolet in 2009, the year when it went on sale for the European public.

For this model, downsizing occured because the B8 S4 replaced the 4.2L V8 engine with a 3.0L TFSi V6 engine with forced induction via a Roots-style Eaton mechanical supercharger.

Even though it's an S model, the B8 S4 competes with the BMW 335i and the Infiniti G37 since Audi discontinued the Audi B7 RS4 and Audi has never made a competitor to the BMW M3. Optional features on the B8 S4 includes active rear differential, active steering and ultra-quick electrically-adjustable shocks (both via Audi Drive Select Package).

APR Motorsport competed the B8 S4 at the Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Grand Sport (GS) class.



As it turns out, the S4 B8 managed to do it in 1:28.223, that's about over five seconds slower than the RS4 but still more quicker than the previous S4 models so I therefore conclude that the RS4 B7 is the winner of my Top Gear Forza Motorsport 4 comparisons....

Go pick the RS4 B7...because it's sonorous...

Audi RS4 Avant B8 (Typ 8K)

Out of the blue, a certain male told that he once watched a DVD about young women in their racing swimsuits doing somewhat...um...more animalistic. He said that it was the most intense, animalistic, erotic encounter of his life. Here it is. The ultimate expression of car porn. If I was Taaj from Come Fly With Me, I would say "okay b****es, the p*ssy wagon has arrived!" because this really is a sport wagon with such fetishes. Once you're here, you'll know that this was the most intense, animalistic, erotic encounter of your life.

Under the hood, this feisty high performance sport wagon from Audi 4.2L V8 FSi engine that generates about 450PS of power and 430Nm of torque. 0-100kph takes about 4.7 seconds and top speed, well, like anything goes, a governed top speed of 250kph but it can be bump up to 280kph by request. It is a fast wagon and with its seven-speed S tronic dual clutch gearbox, this was immensely fast...sort of because if you put it in a race between this and the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon, I'm afraid that doesn't work because even though it has launch control, this Audi can't beat the American high-performance car in a shape of a station wagon, a car that soccer moms often use it for everyday use.

What about handling? As a sex toy, this is a bit too harsh and this feels like it's what you call it "unprotected sex" on the road because form every turn by turn, it feels like you've been wrestled by a young Russian woman in her skin-tight racing swimsuit. Even though it may have the quattro all-wheel drive system, the driving feel's a bit too mild and menacing. Not standard, not dynamic, too mild. As mild as a cup of San Mig Coffee 3-in-1 if you know what I mean but as menacing as a slaughterhouse next door. You have to be serious about handling this high performance Audi sport wagon and if it gets brutal, KEEP CALM AND YELL HAIDARAAAAAA!!!!!

And if by HAIDARAAAAAA!!!!!, well take a look at yourself. This really is the all new Audi RS4 Avant and if by Avant or estate version, you might be saying "LOL. Why no Saloon?", "WTF? Where's the RS4 Saloon?" There's a very bright reason for this, AUDI WILL NEVER MAKE A SALOON VERSION OF THE NEW RS4. You got me? Remember back from the old RS4 (typ B5)? Yep, available in wagon only when it came in 1999. This followed the trend of the first RS4 but that's general information to you all.

But still, even though it's available only in Avant grade, the new RS4 is all about being the most intense animalistic erotic encounter of your life when your foot's on the pedal and once you're driving the new RS4, the humping begins...Oh yeah...How do you like that, Fearghal? How's this for an erotic encounter? Apologies if too much NSFW stuff were there but that's the metaphor for the RS4 Avant because even though for an everyday wagon, it looks and feels absolutely sexy.

Audi A4 (B8) Range Minor Change

Audi's answer to the BMW 3-Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the A4, was the kind of entry level luxury car that you may want to scoff and laugh about because unlike its rivals which are RWD, the Audi A4 only comes with either a FWD or quattro. This latest generation, designated as B8, is one step further to this entry-level Audi sedan and tourer that are targeted for the selected few. And now, at last, the Audi A4 B8 range deserved the big minor change it deserves.

To keep the A4 B8 mountain dew fresh for the 2013 model year, Audi revamped the front and back to match the brand's "Vorsprung Durch Technik" slogan. The new front lamps were carried from the Audi A5 facelift and it comes with a slight wave at the bottom edges but customers would be interested in Xenon plus headlights as an option. Those LED daytime running lamps on the new A4 now creates a narrow, homogeneous band that takes advantage of the xenon lens. The rear lamps are also new as well. It was shaped to be more like the new Audi A8 in order for the new A4 to be one step ahead of its class. For the A4, it has three available models to choose from; one is the saloon version, the A4 Avant for those who need some space, and there's the Audi A4 allroad for those who are looking for some recreational machine.

The change is also implemented on the interior as well. There will be a selection of steering wheels with chrome and high-gloss inlays, with the leather sport steering wheel available by request. This would be somewhat a pick-and-mix choice for the customers to find the interior that well suits their personality. Aside from that, the MMI navigation plus system now offers four buttons to make a bit less complicating. Also, it can do Bluetooth connection with your smartphones, voice-controlled Google searches for points of interests and navigation with Google Earth pics, as well as Google Street View, which sounds convenient for the tech-savvy drivers. Lastly, the interior serves as a WLAN hotspot, providing passengers to surf the internet while they're stuck at traffic. Good mark for Audi, there.

So, what about performance? At the start and depending on the variant of your choice, the new Audi A4 is available in 1.8 TFSi, 2.0 TFSi, 3.0 TFSi, 2.0 TDi, 3.0TDi, and the 3.0TDi engine with clean diesel technology. The most fuel efficient of the Audi A4 range is the one with the 2.0L TDi engine that produces 136HP of power and it will have a fuel consumptions of 4.2L/100km on average, CO2 emissions of 112g/km. The new 1.8L TFSi engine on the new A4 comes with variable valve lift, thermal management, and direct fuel injection aside from its turbocharger that uses waste gases to force air into the engine more efficiently. Basically, it will have 120HP of power but other variants using the new 1.8L TFSi engine170HP of power and 320Nm of torque. Fuel efficiency, it is limited to 5.6L/100km and it has CO2 emissions of 134g/km. It's very eco. Oh, and I almost forgot. Most variants do come with a six-speed manual transmission but some may offer a multitronic CVT as an option. The quattro versions may come with an optional seven speed S tronic tranmissions.

The hardcore Audi S4, in sedan and Avant form, also gained a minor change as well, inside and out. It carries a 3.0L TFSi engine that produces 333HP of power an 440Nm of torque. It can go 0-100kph in 5 seconds and top speed limited to 250kph, which sounds too cheesy.

My Comment:
Keeping the Audi A4 B8 fresh is somewhat too cheesy for Audi to keep the "Vorsprung Durch Technik" tagline one giant leap ahead from its competitiors like BMW and Mercedes-Benz but still, it would always getting scoffed and laughed. With the introduction of the new BMW 3-Series F30, this Audi A4 facelift would be nothing more than a useless tool to me. I'm sorry Audi but neither you built a better A4 nor a good looking medium sedan for the chosen few. I could have hope for that...

Audi A4 allroad quattro





Dubbed as the combat crossover wagon that leaves the Subaru Legacy Outback die, the crossover utility vehicle grade of the popular Audi A4, known as the A4 allroad quattro, proves that this sports utility wagon reaches beyond the bounds across the European peninsula.
