How to dress as Liko or Roy

Today is Ash Wednesday but because of the latest Pokemon anime series, let's rename it Liko & Roy Wednesday because of the show's two main characters.

To recall, the Pokemon Horizons anime series centers on two youngsters, Liko and Roy, as they set off on a globe-trotting adventure as members of the Rising Volt Tacklers, an intrepid group of brave adventurers led by Friede. Together, they unravel the secrets and save the day from the wrath of a shadowy group of evil-doers called the Explorers.

As anime convention season draws near, the call to cosplay has spiked and your interest in dressing as either Liko or Roy has been answered because today, I'll teach you how to dress as Liko or Roy from the Pokemon Horizons series.

Pokemon 2023 series

How to dress as Liko

  • Start with semi-long black hair and a hairpin shaped like...you know what that symbol is. HINT: It's the same symbol in the first and original hat Ash wore in the old Pokemon anime.
  • With the hair sorted, work on her outfit. She wore a bluish short-sleeved coat, a white T-shirt, and dark blue shorts with buttons. The yellow fanny pack is an optional accessory, although it's hard to find one shaped like Liko's.
  • White running shoes and white socks are a must.
  • OPTIONAL: A Poke Ball toy and a Sprigatito plush. Seriously, a Poke Ball is a necessity to prove that you're dressed as Liko.
How to dress as Roy
  • Beginning to the top, Roy has a black cap with a red hairdo stuffed. To replicate it, you'll need a black cap, paint the cotton red, stick it, and that's your lot.
  • For the outfit, Roy wears a black vest, a red T-shirt with short white sleeves, and brown shorts. Snag those clothes for your cosplay project but be warned, replicating the insignia from Roy's T-shirt can be nerve-wracking. Consult a T-shirt expert first.
  • For the footwear, Roy wears sandals. Any sandal would work.
  • OPTIONAL: A Poke Ball toy and a Fuecoco plush. As expected, a Poke Ball is a necessity to pass as Roy.
...and there you have it. How to dress as Liko or Roy from the Pokemon Horizons series. Dressing as one of the main characters makes you feel like you're part of the Rising Volt Tacklers, huh? Nidothing approves and so does every Pokemon fan everywhere.

Good luck!

My 10 greatest moments from Ash and Pikachu's adventures

March 24, 2023, is the date that will forever change the history of Pokemon anime, marking the end of Ash Ketchum's adventure after 26 years. From the moment he partnered with Pikachu to the moment he defeated Leon and became the world champion, the whole world thought that this will be the end of Ash's never-ending quest to become a Pokemon master but sadly, all good things must come to an end.

As the world says goodbye to Ash and Pikachu's Pokemon journeys after 26 years in the telly, it's time for me to jot down my ten favorite moments from Ash and Pikachu's adventures.

HOLD IT! May contain the s-words so please binge-watch the entire series first!

Pokemon

10) The beginning of the legend. Ash's encounter with Pikachu from the first Pokemon anime episode signaled the start of his dream. Normally, Ash would have picked one of the starters but because he arrived late, he got none until Pikachu came and an electric shock from Pikachu is a welcoming treat for Ash. The two struggle to get to know each other but after one mishap after another, well, this is the start of the legend. The story of Ash and Pikachu has begun.

9) Having lost to Vermillion Gym Leader Lt. Surge's Raichu, Ash has a choice. Will he evolve his Pikachu to a Raichu with the Thunder Stone and risk losing the Pikachu he loved? As a matter of fact, Ash's Pikachu wanted to stay like this and Ash agreed. Relying on Pikachu's strength, it appears the lesser one has trumped the greater one. Ash's Pikachu defeated Lt. Surge's Raichu.

8) The showdown for the spot at the Masters' Eight, Ash's Mega Lucario vs. Raihan's Gigantamax Duraludon is by no means one of the most memorable Pokemon battles in history. Using everything Ash learned from its old friend, Greninja, he's in sync with his Mega Lucario and performs the impossible to defeat the Dragon-type professional. Ash's Mega Lucario unleashed the biggest Aura Sphere ever witnessed and brought down the Gigantamax Duraludon with it. Ash wins and his spot at the Masters' Eight has been secured.

7) Sinnoh Pokemon League. Ash's Infernape vs. Paul's Electivire. One of the most memorable battles in Pokemon anime history. Just as we thought Ash's Infernape is defeated, all that taunting from Paul and Electivire caused Ash's Infernape to unleash its true power. With a final Flare Blitz gambit from Ash's Infernape, Paul's Electivire is down and Ash and Infernape won.

6) In the climax of Pokemon: The First Movie, the fighting between Pokemon and Mewtwo's clones grew fierce and when Ash tries to put a stop to this fighting, the conflict caused Ash to seal his fate in the line of duty. The shocking moment caused Ash's Pikachu to cry and its tears brought Ash back to life, putting an end to this meaningless conflict between Pokemon.

5) The episode where Ash said goodbye to his Butterfree is the saddest moment in Pokemon anime history as after saving a flock of Butterfree from the clutches of Team Rocket, Ash bid his Pokemon friend goodbye as his Butterfree is flying happily with the flock.

4) The showdown between Ash's Greninja and Alain's Mega Charizard X in the final round of the Kalos Pokemon League is what the fans called a close call. Both sides unleashed their finishing blows and in the end...victory goes to Alain.

3) The showdown between Ash and Gladion in the Alolan Pokemon League finals has reached its thrilling climax as both of their Lycanrocs unleashed everything in an all-or-nothing battle to decide who will be Alola's first champion. The fighting was fierce but thanks to Ash's Lycanroc's Counter, Ash miraculously defeated Gladion to become the champion of the Alola region.

2) The penultimate episode of the Sun and Moon saga brings the explosive finale to the ultimate showdown between Ash and Professor Kukui. With the legendary Tapu Koko fighting on the professor's behalf, it became what is known to be the true final battle. With their Z-Rings regained power thanks to Tapu Koko, the two unleashed a Z-Move finale with the Professor unleashing Tapu Koko's Guardian of Alola and Ash's Pikachu using 10,000,000-volt Thunderbolt. After an explosive Z-move finish, Ash and Pikachu won!

1) The final showdown between Ash's Pikachu and Leon's Charizard in the World Coronation Series will go down in history as the greatest battle in Pokemon anime history. Relying on their true strengths, both of their prized fighters throw everything they've got until one will be declared the world champion. As Ash's Pikachu faces defeat by Leon's Charizard, it had a dream. Pikachu dreamt that most of Ash's Pokemon friends are cheering, including Ash himself. That dream brought Pikachu back to the battle, unleashing its true power and ready to finish what it started. After the explosive coup de grace, it's official. Ash's Pikachu finally defeated Leon's Charizard and Ash became the world champion.

...and there you have it. My 10 greatest moments from Ash and Pikachu's adventures.

The end of Ash Ketchum's adventures does not mean the end of the Pokemon anime because starting next month, a new generation of Pokemon adventure begins. Two new heroes, Liko and Roy, will be taking over the protagonist role and although the adventure feels different, the legacy of the Pokemon anime series lives on.

A new legacy will soon begin...

  • Pokemon Scarlet/Violet will be compatible with Pokemon HOME this early 2023.

And that's everything you need to know, ace trainers. With such big announcements, there's no sign of slowing down the ever-evolving world of Pokemon.

Think you got what it takes to take on such new challenges? I'm looking forward to seeing you try.

Pocket Monsters Scarlet and Violet

The newest Pokemon saga has arrived as fans and newcomers are welcome to a whole new world and a whole new way to enjoy their newest Pokemon adventure. Prepare for a magnificent ride toward the vibrant region of Paldea.

Welcome to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the newest chapter of the Pokemon franchise where players have been given unprecedented freedom to explore the Paldea region their way. Using every know-how from the previous game, Pokemon Legends Arceus, Scarlet and Violet deliver an open-world freedom that is so great, even your online buddies can enjoy and cross paths with you every time.

As a trainer who is enrolled in the academy, you will explore the vast wonders of the Paldea region on your own terms, catching Pokemon, battling trainers, uncovering secrets, saving the day, and fighting your way toward the Champion rank, this is the taste of your Paldean adventure and no matter which path you'll choose, it's all about being ready for everything in this game.

Because catching Pokemon is the cream of the crop of the games, the Paldea region is home to new and returning Pokemon such as the starters (Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly), Pokemon that can be commonly caught in the wild such as Lechonk, Smoliv, and Pawmi, and some version exclusives such as Armarogue for Scarlet players and Ceruledge for Violet players. Of course, like all good installments, trading's also a great way to complete your Paldean Pokedex, and later on in 2023, you can transfer your favorites from past installments and Pokemon Go via Pokemon Home connectivity. Better remind yourselves about the Gimmighoul.

The Paldea region is home to a mysterious phenomenon known as Terastal Phenomenon. By terastallizing a Pokemon, it changes its type to its Tera Type, a newfound advantage to cover its weaknesses. For instance, a Pikachu with a Flying Tera Type will be immune to Ground-type attacks, or a Tyranitar with a Ghost Tera Type will save you from a Fighting-type attack. If you teach a Pokemon with a Tera Blast move via TM, this move will attack using the same Tera Type it's on. Terastallizing is a new way to turn the tables of the battle.

Of course, every Pokemon has a different Tera Type so you can't say which is which. However, if you are looking for a Pokemon with the desired Tera Type you'll need, Tera Raid Battles is a way to go. By teaming up with other players, you can defeat and catch the Pokemon you'll need for future battles.

There are lots of new features in the game such as the Let's Go feature where you'll let your Pokemon do the battling as well as the Picnic feature where you can have fun with your favorite Pokemon and feed them sandwiches to make them more friendly to you. You can even personalize your Trainer Card as well as take pictures with you and your pals. Another enriching way to get used to this new region.

With new and exciting features that will keep you hooked to these installments, Scarlet and Violet truly is a bold new step forward for the Pokemon franchise. Like it or not, these new franchises will deepen your love for all things Pokemon further, and with you and your pals setting foot in the Paldea region, consider yourselves Bienvenidos, amigos.

My 25 best Pokemon anime moments

April 1, 2022, marks the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon anime series as on this day, the very first episode of the Pokemon TV series aired on TV Tokyo. The episode where Satoshi (Ash) first met Pikachu and began their journey. For eight regions and over a thousand episodes later, their bonding is stronger than time itself. In honor of such an occasion, now is the time to jot down my top 25 best Pokemon anime moments.

HOLD IT! May contain the s-words so please binge-watch the entire series first!

Pokemon Journeys

25) Ash is so pumped up for the showdown against Celadon Gym Leader Erika. The problem is, he got kicked out because he felt disgusted over the pricey perfume, which turned out it was made from the gym itself. This is the episode where Ash turned himself into Ashley.

24) Iris's Emolga became part of Team Rocket? A certain episode from Adventures in Unova and Beyond saw our lovable Electric-and-Flying-Type Pokemon end up being with the bad guys. Turns out, this Emolga's pretending to be with them just so it can patch things up with Iris.

23) A Diamond and Pearl episode saw Ash, Brock, and Dawn end up in a middle of a mysterious place where all of their dreams come true. Turns out, this little dream they're in is a trap set up by a Ghost-type Pokemon named Mismagius. With Ash and Dawn trapped in their whims, Brock and his Croagunk are trying to snap them out of it. With the gang back from their senses, they team up to defeat Mismagius.

22) Ash's first and only Shiny Pokemon caught in the TV series is a Noctowl and a certain episode of The Johto Journeys saw the gang encounter a Noctowl with a different color. Having struggled to break through its hypnosis, Ash and the gang pulled all the stops to capture this elusive Noctowl.

21) Escaped from the sunken S.S. Anne but got wiped out by a Gyarados, Ash and his pals, including Team Rocket, got their Pokemon pals separated on a mysterious island...inhabited by giant Pokemon. Struggling to get together, the group settles their differences and works together to reunite with their respective human friends. It wasn't easy...but it's downright hilarious.

20) The episode where Ash said goodbye to his Butterfree is the saddest moment in Pokemon anime history as after saving a flock of Butterfree from the clutches of Team Rocket, Ash bid his Pokemon friend goodbye as his Butterfree is flying happily with the flock.

19) The secret origin of Meowth's uncovered in a Pokemon episode where we get to learn more about how Meowth talked. Following his heartbreak with a female Meowth named Meowsie, our least-lovable feline went through greater heights and began learning how to talk in a human language. This is the Meowth everybody loves to hate.

18) When Ash got sick, Clemont and Bonnie set off to find some medicine for Ash, and a Pikachu trainer is challenging Ash, what would Serena do? Pretend to be Ash! How hard can it be?!

17) The moment where Ash told his Charizard to go is by no means one of the most heartbreaking moments in Pokemon anime history.

16) The Pokemon Journeys episode where Goh's Magikarp enters the contest for the highest splash done by a Magikarp is by no means the most hilarious moment. Where does Goh's Magikarp head to after a spectacular Splash...no one knows? Oh wait, it ended up on the island of Slowpoke where Ash and Goh got their heads stuck by Slowking's Shellder. That splash is out of this world...literally.

15) Following her heartbreaking defeat at her Pokemon Contest debut, Serena vowed to her Pokemon friends to do better. This is where we get to see Serena's new look from the end of a certain XY episode.

14) The Cosplay Pikachu episode from Kalos Quest is proof we all love Pikachu, no matter the look. The episode saw Ash and friends fulfill a director's dream to create the perfect movie starring none other than Pikachu. This is where different versions of Cosplay Pikachu came in.

13) The beginning of the legend.

12) The showdown between Ash and the rest of Kalos against Team Flare boss Lysandre reached its climax and the episode showcased Zygarde in its Complete Form. Unleashing its Core Enforcer attack, Lysandre's reign of terror is finally over and the Kalos region is saved.

11) The final episode of the Advanced saga saw the contest showdown between Ash's Sceptile and May's Blaziken end in a draw. After an explosive battle, Ash bids farewell to May and returns to Pallet Town. His little homecoming got interrupted when he was challenged by Gary. After Ash's Pikachu got knocked out by Gary's Electivire, it's a clear sign that Ash's prepared for his Sinnoh adventure.

10) Having lost to Vermillion Gym Leader Lt.

9) The Pokemon School's having a stage play with Lillie the star of the play. The problem is, Team Rocket crashes the show, and with the change of plans, Ash and the gang are putting a hilarious twist on their stage play to save the day. Too many references involved.

8) Ultra Guardians vs. Necrozma. The ultra showdown determines the fate of the Alola Region. As the whole Alola unites to feed Necrozma, Ash and Gladion team up with Solgaleo and Lunala to finish it with the legends' Z-moves Searing Sunraze Smash and Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom. Peace has been restored in the Alola region but with every day saved comes a bittersweet farewell as Ash bids farewell to Poipole as it returns to its homeworld.

6) The showdown between Team Rocket's Mimikyu and Ash's Pikachu in the abandoned mart is the most intense Sun and Moon moment. When Team Rocket's Mimikyu unleashes the Z-move, Let's Snuggle Forever, we might think this could spell the end of Ash's Pikachu but thankfully, Ash's Pikachu learned Electroweb in the nick of time, giving Ash's Pikachu the opportunity to use 10,000,000-Volt Thunderbolt to defeat Mimikyu.

5) The showdown against Eternatus is by no means one of the coolest moments in Pokemon anime history. With Ash's Riolu evolving into Lucario during a battle against Chairman Rose and Goh's Raboot evolving into Cinderace, the two boys face off against the wrath of Eternatus. With help from the legendary Zacian and Zamazenta, Goh and Ash succeeded in capturing the biggest threat of all.

4) The end of the XY saga saw Ash bid farewell to Clemont, Bonnie, and Serena. The memorable moment before Ash's Kalos adventure ended is what Serena did to Ash. Whatever she did to Ash before saying goodbye to him...there are no words to describe it.

3) The showdown between Ash's Greninja and Alain's Mega Charizard X in the final round of the Kalos Pokemon League is what the fans called a close call. Both sides unleashed their finishing blows and in the end...victory goes to Alain.

2) The showdown between Ash and Gladion in the Alolan Pokemon League finals has reached its thrilling climax as both of their Lycanrocs unleashed everything in an all-or-nothing battle to decide who will be Alola's first champion. The fighting was fierce but thanks to Ash's Lycanroc's Counter, Ash miraculously defeated Gladion to become the champion of the Alola region.

and the best Pokemon moment is...

1) The penultimate episode of the Sun and Moon saga brings the explosive finale to the ultimate showdown between Ash and Professor Kukui.

Happy 25th anniversary to the Pokemon TV series! As Ash and Goh's Pokemon journeys near its climax, will Ash conquer the World Coronation Series and defeat Leon? Will Goh accomplish the toughest Project Mew mission in the hopes of catching Mew? Will Chloe become the best Pokemon contest coordinator with the help of her Eevee? Only time will tell but with new and returning faces coming full circle, the climax of their Pokemon journeys will be...legendary.

Pokemon LEGENDS: Arceus

The world of Pokemon is all about trainers exploring new worlds, catching Pokemon, battling the best trainers, and becoming a true Pokemon master. For two and a half decades, the world of Pokemon continues to expand further for all the trainers who dream the impossible dream, but what if the world of Pokemon looks like before humans and Pokemon bond each other? Step back in time in an ancient civilization and witness the world of Pokemon as you've never witnessed before in the latest Pokemon adventure that takes back centuries ago in the land that will soon be known as the Sinnoh region.

Pokemon LEGENDS: Arceus
Pokemon LEGENDS: Arceus

Pokemon LEGENDS: Arceus is a brand new Pokemon adventure where players go back in time and experience the majestic beauty of the Hisui region, a region that will be known centuries later as the Sinnoh region from the Diamond and Pearl games. That's right. This game is set centuries before Diamond and Pearl, even the characters you will meet in the game could be ancestors from familiar Diamond and Pearl characters, so there's a connection between the two timelines.

In this different kind of Pokemon adventure, you are a member of the Galaxy Expedition Team, a team that specializes in surveying Pokemon across the region. At the start of your journey, you have been given a choice of three starter Pokemons that came from different regions such as Cyndaquill from the Johto region, Oshawott from the Unova region, and Rowlet from the Alola region. These three starters look familiar to you but when they reached their final evolution stages, they're not the ones you're familiar with.

As a member of the team's survey corps, your mission is to explore the different flora and fauna of the region and when told, you'll do what every Pokemon fan does best; catching. However, this isn't an easy task because with most Pokemon behaving differently in different areas, it's important not to rush while approaching near to it and catching it. You can try battling with it using your Pokemon and lower its HP before catching it, that's a classic method that surely comes in handy in a different setting.

At times, there are wild Pokemon coming to attack you, which is unheard of for a Pokemon game, so watch your step. If some wild Pokemon trying to attack you from all sides, it's best to either use your Pokemon to battle it or catch it. It's worth the risk but if you have taken too much damage, you'd better rush back to your base camp to heal yourself and your Pokemon. Aside from healing yourself, your base camp can be an essential place to craft various items. Of course, if you're itching for crafting materials or new recipes for cool items, you can visit the general store and craftworks for supplies and recipes. It pays to be prepared for more.

As you progress through the adventure, you might run into terrifyingly powerful Pokemons along the way. They're known as Alphas and they're bigger than normal and have glowing red eyes. When you encounter them, it's either fight or flight because their attacks are insanely powerful, which might come in handy when you got the guts to catch them.

The battle system in Pokemon LEGENDS: Arceus is different than most Pokemon games because there are two ways to use a Pokemon move such as Agile Style and Strong Style. The former cuts down power in favor of usable speed, making the user's next turn come sooner, while the latter cuts down action speed for added power. Use these styles efficiently because this will turn the tide of the battle in your favor.

Of course, personalization is included in this game and while you're not on an adventure, you can buy various clothing to personalize yourself. You can even go to the Photography Studio to show your style and your favorite Pokemon as well. It's one way to show the world how much you're enjoying this different kind of adventure.

In addition to the familiar Pokemon you will catch in the game, Pokemon LEGENDS: Arceus marks the debut of new Pokemons such as Wyrdeer, Basculegion, and Kleavor. Familiar Pokemon favorites such as Voltorb, Zorua, Zoroark, Braviary, and Growlithe have been given their Hisuian regions, giving the impressions of what they look like in the land that time forgot.

Although it's set in a different timeline from the Diamond and Pearl saga and features a different kind of gameplay mechanics compared to past installments, Pokemon LEGENDS: Arceus showcases a different kind of Pokemon adventure fans will never forget.

If you've enjoyed last year's Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you can give this new kind of Pokemon adventure a try. After all, both these games are set in the same place but with different timelines. It's the Pokemon adventure that time forgot but you'll never forget the awesome experience this game delivers. Consider this your true calling.

The Pokemon Ash caught during the Diamond and Pearl years

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have finally arrived on the Nintendo Switch, and in honor of the games' release, let's take a trip down memory lane to take a look at some of the Pokemons that Ash (Satoshi) caught during the Diamond and Pearl years.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl

Starly/Staravia/Staraptor - Ash's first Pokemon caught in the Sinnoh region is Starly. He encountered one when his Aipom accidentally knocked it in the woods. As the story progresses, his Starly evolved into Staravia, and finally into Staraptor, which knows the powerful Brave Bird attack.

Turtwig/Grotle/Torterra - After saving Pikachu and friends from Team Rocket, Turtwig became part of Ash's team. It later evolved into Grotle, and then Torterra.

Chimchar/Monferno/Infernape - Abandoned by Paul because of being weak, Chimchar became part of Ash's team and their friendship deepens as the story progresses. It later evolved into Monferno and then after that, Infernape. Infernape has a lot of anger issues but Ash managed to be in sync with this Pokemon.

Buizel - Originally belonged to Dawn, Ash obtained this Pokemon in exchange for his Aipom because this Pokemon is more battle-focused than being contest-focused. With its speed and agility, Buizel can outperform even the strongest Pokemon it battled.

Gligar/Gliscor - Known for being the weakest link of the pack of Gligars, Ash befriended it and spent the rest of the adventures honing its skills until it evolved into Gliscor.

Gible - Friendship by chomp at first, Ash's Gible is known for using Draco Meteor with disastrous and hilarious results, always hitting Dawn's Piplup with it.

BONUS: Riolu/Lucario - If you think Ash's Sinnoh Pokemon friends are limited to those above, did you know that he also has another Sinnoh Region Pokemon in his current roster? Fast forward to today's Pokemon Journeys, Ash obtained a Riolu from an egg he and Goh encountered. When became part of Ash's team, his Riolu faced countless trials right to the moment it evolved into Lucario while Ash and Goh tried to thwart Chairman Rose's evil plan. Later on, Ash even got the chance to Mega Evolve his Lucario with the Mega Stone and the Lucarionite, and they put it to good use against Bea's Gigantamax Machamp for the spot at the World Coronation.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are now on sale for the Nintendo Switch!

Pocket Monsters Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise and it also marks the 15th anniversary of the Diamond and Pearl games, making it the perfect moment for Nintendo to unveil the rebirth of the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl games for the Nintendo Switch. It's time to return to the Sinnoh region for the latest Pokemon adventure; Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl.

Pocket Monsters
Brilliant Diamond

Pocket Monsters
Shining Pearl

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl is the rebirth of the original Diamond and Pearl games launched on the Nintendo DS 15 years ago, welcoming fans and newcomers to the Sinnoh Region as they've never seen before.

Although less of a remake and more of a remastering unlike Fire Red/Leaf Green, Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, and Let's Go Pikachu/Let's Go Eevee, the rebirth of the Diamond and Pearl games work just like the original, even better.

Like most Pokemon games, trainers can begin their journey with one of the starters such as Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup. As the adventure progress, trainers can explore through the wonders of the Sinnoh region, battling tough trainers, defeating Gym Leaders to win badges in order to enter the Pokemon League and defeat Cynthia the Sinnoh League Champion, thwart Team Galactic's evil plans, take on contests, and the most important of all, Gotta Catch 'em All! It's simple as that.

Fans of the original Diamond and Pearl games will be familiarized with the cool features that can be experienced in the remake such as using the Poketch, making underground secret bases, the Amity Square where you can stroll with your adorable little Pokemon permitted in that area, Poffin making, and the Capsule Decoration feature, not to mention different Pokemon appear exclusively in each feature such as Stunky for Diamond users and Glameow for Pearl users. Oh, and did we mention Hidden Moves as well?

Since this is the rebirth of the Diamond and Pearl saga, these games come with new and exciting features such as taking your favorite Pokemon for a stroll everywhere, trainer personalization, and the new Ramanas Park area, open after you became a Hall of Famer, where you can encounter past legendaries using slates.

Of course, as you spend the rest of the game catching and evolving Pokemon to complete the Sinnoh Pokedex as well as the National Pokedex, trading with other players is also part of the Pokedex-completing experience and that's where Union Room comes in. Union Room allows players to trade or battle other players locally or online with the Nintendo Switch Online subscription. If that wasn't your thing, be patient because starting next year, Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl will become Pokemon HOME compatible, meaning you can transfer your favorite Pokemon to this game including those from the upcoming Pokemon Legends Arceus video game coming early next year.

What a way to celebrate 25 years of Pokemon as well as 15 years of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The Sinnoh remakes really are a must-have for longtime Pokemon fans and if you're ready for another adventure, consider Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl your calling.

New Pokemon Snap

A long time ago, when you were in your early elementary years and you had a Nintendo 64, you may have stumbled into a classic video game titled Pokemon Snap, a game where you get to be a Pokemon photographer traveling to a faraway island, taking pictures of your favorite Pokemon. It was quite unique but it's nothing more of a distant memory for you until now...

New Pokemon Snap

Pokemon Snap is back on the Nintendo Switch and this time, it's even more picture-perfect than the original. Welcome to the New Pokemon Snap.

What is New Pokemon Snap, you may ask? It's a new Pokemon photography game that takes cues from the original Pokemon Snap and made it better, whatever it is. In this new game, players take on the role of a Pokemon photographer assigned to explore the wonders of the Lentil Region, surveying and photographing Pokemon living in the region.

Your goal is to create the best Pokemon Photodex featuring all the Pokemon photos you've shot at the Lental Region. From the harsh terrains, green forests, to the oceanside, you'll find plenty of Pokemon you can't wait to take pictures with.

Of course, like the original, a simple Pokemon photo wasn't really enough. You need the right tools for the job if you want your photos to be more unique. For example, if you got access to the feature where you can throw fruits at a nearby Pokemon, you can use it if you want to take pics of Pokemons eating this delicious fruit you've thrown at them or if you have access to those mysterious orbs, you can throw it on a Pokemon and watch them glow and act differently. There are so many ways to take pictures of your favorite Pokemon so feel free to experiment with different features and here's hoping that your pictures will get the four-star rating, proof that your photos are unique.

Throughout this journey, you will encounter mysterious Pokemons that glow and no, they're not Shiny Pokemon as you may call it. They're different and those mysterious Pokemons can only be found in the Lentil region but what are they really? You'll have to find out to uncover these mysteries.

So, there you have it. The New Pokemon Snap feels just like the original Nintendo 64 video game but with so much of your favorite Pokemon desperate to get their shots taken by you, you will have fond memories about playing this rather unique Pokemon game that reminds you of your childhood moments. How will you snap?

Google Pokemon of the Year

To commemorate the Pokemon franchise's 24th anniversary, they collaborated with Google for the first-ever Google Pokemon of the Year, where everyone in the world use Google to vote for who is the best Pokemon all things considered.

Google Pokemon of the Year

After weeks of voting on who is the best Pokemon all things considered, the winner has been unveiled on the 27th of February, 2020, the day the Pokemon franchise celebrated its 24th anniversary. Question is, who emerged the winner of the first ever Google Pokemon of the Year?

SPOILER ALERT: Pikachu wasn't in the top 10 nor in the top 5 either.

10th - Gengar (60,214 votes)
9th - Gardevoir (60,596 votes)
8th - Rayquaza (60,939 votes)
7th - Garchomp (61,877 votes)
6th - Sylveon (66,029 votes)
5th - Umbreon (67,062 votes)
4th - Charizard (93,968 votes)
3rd - Mimikyu (99,077 votes)
2nd - Lucario (102,259 votes)

Ash-Greninja

WINNER: Greninja (140,559 votes)

The Water-and-Dark type Ninja Pokemon Greninja bags the Google Pokemon of the Year title, which is very amazing because about four years ago, Pokemon fans across Japan decide who is the best Pokemon all things considered the whole time by taking on a one-of-a-kind Pokemon Sousenkyo 720. In that very event, fans voted who is the best Pokemon and the winning Pokemon will be offered for those who attended the crowning ceremony. After a month of tallying the votes, the best Pokemon all things considered the whole time...is none other than Greninja, the Ninja Pokemon.

Some say, it's the Protean ability that made this Pokemon a game-changer in rating battles, online competitions, and world championships. Some say, it's the looks that appeal most Pokemon fans, even women. Some say, its unique power to become Ash-Greninja in Pokemon The Series XYZ made this Pokemon a stand-out. All we know is, such fascinating traits made Greninja the best Pokemon all things considered the whole time.

No doubt about it that the best Pokemon all things considered four years ago is still the best Pokemon all things considered.

Happy 24th anniversary to the Pokemon series!

SIDE NOTE: During the celebration, they've unveiled the new Mythical Pokemon coming soon to Pokemon Sword and Shield games and it will star in this summer's Pokemon movie. Care to guess who that is?

Zarude

The newest Mythical Pokemon is named Zarude, a Dark-and-Grass-type Rogue Monkey Pokemon coming soon to the Pokemon Sword and Shield games as well as the upcoming Pokemon movie this July 2020. Are you trainers prepared for this new Pokemon?

Pocket Monsters Sword and Shield

After months of waiting, the Pokemon franchise is expanded with an all-new saga featuring a new region full of new characters, new Pokemon, a mysterious new phenomenon, and a prophecy waiting to be uncovered. Welcome to Pokemon Sword and Shield, the next chapter of the Pokemon franchise.

So, what is Sword and Shield, you say? First and foremost, the new saga in the world of Pokemon welcomes players to the Galar Region, which is heavily inspired from Great Britain. Brit vibes aside, the new region is home to new Pokemon waiting to be caught.

At the start, players can choose one of the starters such as the Grass-type Grookey, the Fire-type Scorbunny, and the Water-type Sobble. With their starter set, players can explore the Galar Region catching new Pokemon, battle trainers, and conquer, yes really, gym battles, in the road to battle Leon and become the Galar Champion. It won't be easy but with the best Pokemon team with you, nothing is impossible.

There are plenty of Pokemon to catch in the Galar Region, be it new or returning. From new Pokemon such as Yamper, Corviknight, Morpeko, Cramorant, and Drednaw, to Galarian versions of familiar ones such as Ponyta and Weezing, every Pokemon is unique in every way and the key to victory lies between them.

Of course, there are version exclusives to expect in addition to cover legendary Pokemon such as Sword's Zacian and Shield's Zamazenta, and for the first time, different versions feature different gym leaders to compete. There are others, of course, so keep an eye out on what to expect per version.

Throughout your journey, Pokemon battles get even explosive due to the mysterious phenomenon known as Dynamax. Dynamax enlarges Pokemon for three turns, able to unleash massive moves that will turn the tide. In addition, a few Pokemon may change form under the guise of Gigantamax, such as Charizard, Drednaw, Alcremie, and Corviknight.

Believe it or not, you can catch one on Max Raid Battles and who knows, they might posses better stats than ordinary Pokemon. You might even have a crack at catching Gigantamax Pokemon as well but it won't be easy even with three NPCs fighting alongside you so it best to bring some friends before taking on. By clearing Max Raid Battles, you can win items and single-use TRs (reminscent of past TMs from early installments) full of powerful moves.

There are plenty of new features in the new installments such as going camping with your Pokemon. While camping, you can play with them and cook recipes your Pokemon will love to eat. Spending time with them makes them friendly and gain EXP.

Also, the way you use items to raise Pokemon has been recalibrated such as maxing your Pokemon with stat boosters anytime you want. If it's not your thing, you can send them to jobs to earn cash, EXP, or even stat boosts, depending on the job you choose.

Pokemon Sword and Shield will be compatible with next year's Pokemon Home service, which allows players to transfer Pokemon from past installments and Pokemon Go to Sword and Shield. However, only Pokemon listed to the Galar PokeDex are allowed. It's no wonder why fans grabbed pitchforks and yell in protest over the harsh decision. What's worse, with the advent of Dynamax mechanics, the whole Mega and Z stuff are now gone in Sword and Shield. Shame.

If you want to be a real Pokemon master, then this game is not for you. Good Pokemon masters always look back at their past achievements to salivate on their favorite Pokemon but what good not being a Pokemon master by not playing the latest installments despite the harsh decisions the producers made? It's hard to say but whether you like it or not, the newest Pokemon adventure will always leave its doors open to anyone who wish to start a new journey in the wonderful Galar Region. It's yours to explore if you're ready.

Mewtwo Strikes Back EVOLUTION

The first Pokemon movie first released in theaters in 1998 and then worldwide a year later and in the early years when Pokemon became a worldwide phenomenon, Pokemon: The First Movie became the biggest anime blockbuster at the twilight of the 20th century. Fast forward to 2019 and the first Pokemon movie has been given a full 3D CGI remake and this remake is the first Pokemon movie of the Reiwa era.

Mewtwo Strikes Back EVOLUTION

Mewtwo Strikes Back EVOLUTION has many firsts because not only this is the first Pokemon movie has been remade for the 21st century, it's the first 3D CGI Pokemon movie ever made. It's also the first Pokemon movie of the Reiwa era.

The remake is like the very first Pokemon movie in history. This film sees Ash, Misty, and Brock, among many others, invited to a Pokemon battle like never before, only it turns out to be a trap set up by the legendary Mewtwo, the genetic Pokemon created by the DNA of the mythical Pokemon Mew. While the story is just like old times, this film introduces us a Mewtwo unlike any other, known as the Armored Mewtwo.

Fans who have wished for the first ever 3D-animated Pokemon movie got what they really want and while this is a dream come true for many, this remake feels pretty much like the original, especially at the parts that will make the viewers cry. Although not a perfect film to watch, this film is one of the many reasons why we love Pokemon and it really is the cream of the crop worth watching for. It's the epitome of why some of our childhood favorites return in style and by blending modern elements into this timeless masterpiece, this remake of the first Pokemon movie delivers the most explosive experience moviegoers will love.

Love it or hate it, the remake is simply one of the many reasons why the Pokemon franchise continues to evolve into exciting ways and since this is the Reiwa era, there will be more to come for this franchise as Sword and Shield draws near.

My rating: 3.9 out of 5

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu

Since Pokemon is known to be one of the most successful franchises in history which started life as a video game made by Nintendo, Creatures, and GAME FREAK, then spawned a TV anime, and then a series of merchandising rights, it didn't took long before the folks from Hollywood wanted a piece of a Pokemon action by making their live-action Pokemon film but it's not what you think it is because the live action Hollywood movie adaptation of the smash hit franchise turns out to be one of the Pokemon spin-offs in question, specifically Detective Pikachu.

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu
With Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds lend his voice to the titular character and the introduction of Justice Smith as Tim Goodman, the film sees Tim, the son of the famous detective Harry Goodman, arrived in Ryme City in search for his father's whereabouts and that's how the unexpected team-up between Tim and Detective Pikachu comes into play, searching for his missing father while dealing with a terrifying menace that could threaten the world forever.

There are a couple of problems about the live action Pokemon movie and that goes down to the Pokemon featured in the film because like every single Hollywood movie adaptation of popular anime titles, the people behind the film went over to the Pokemon designs as compared to the original anime looks, therefore it looks rather scary to look at or furry. And then, there's the theme. The Detective Pikachu video game a while back looks like a faux Professor Layton and that looks rather charming. The film though is a bit too much if you ask.

Behind the little niggles, there are some upside to this live action Pokemon film. When it was first shown in theaters across Japan, it managed to claw through the top three spot, two places behind this year's Detective Conan film and that is very impressive indeed for a live-action adaptation of one of the most successful franchises in the world. Behind the success lies the rather nice storytelling and the sense of humor it delivers. Everybody loves a good sense of humor in the film as well as the inevitable plot twist in store and such chemistry results into one of the most must-watch films of the season.

Although it isn't the best film of the year but it's by far out one of the most impressive films full stop and this is just one of the reasons why we all love Pokemon and always will be.

My rating: 3.6 out of 5.
