Sochi 2014 Highlights - FINAL DAY


February 23, 2014 - FINAL DAY

And there we are, Sochi 2014 has reached its ultimate climax and on the final day of the winter games, we see the Russians won the Four-man Heat 4 and done a 1-2-3 finish at the Men's 50km Mass Start Free as Alexander Legkov is the champion while Maxim Vylegzhanin placed 2nd and Ilia Chernousov placed 3rd.

Canada won the gold medal for Ice Hockey after a Gold Medal match against the Swedish at the score of 0-3. That's Sweden 0, Canada 3.


In the medal count tally, Russia scored a grand total of 33 medals (13 gold, 11 silver, 9 bronze) while USA garnered 28 medals (9 gold, 7 silver, 12 bronze) and Norway got 26 medals (11 gold, 5 silver, 10 bronze). We can therefore conclude that Russia, the hosting nation, is the overall winner of the Sochi 2014 games. Looks like the Russian athletes really done it for Mother Russia, eh? Congratulations or should I say Поздравляю, Россия!

The end of Sochi 2014 marks the countdown of the next Winter Games as the Russians passed the torch to the hosting nation for the next 2018 Winter Olympics; South Korea. See you all in PyeongChang this 2018!

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day 16


February 22, 2014 - DAY 16

As we near to the end of the 2014 Sochi Games, the athletes stop at nothing to go for the gold before the closing ceremonies. In the Men's Slalom Run 2, Austra got a 1-2 finish as Mario Matt is the winner while Marcel Hirscher placed 2nd.

The Russians showed supreme marksmanship at the Men's Relay 4x7.5km Biathlon while the Norwegians scored a 1-2-3 finish at the Ladies' 30km Mass Start Free as Marit Bjoergen is the winner while Therese Johaug placed 2nd and Kristin Stoermer Steira placed 3rd.

While the Men's Ice Hockey game commence in the final day of the Sochi 2014, there was a Bronze medal game and looks like Finland finished out against the USA's finest hockey players at the score of 0-5. That's USA 0, Finland 5.

Julia Dujmovits from Austria won the Ladies' Parallel Slalom Finals while Vic Wild from Russia won the Men's Parallel Slalom Finals.

Team Netherlands won both the Men's Team Pursuit Finals and Ladies' Team Pursuit Finals.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day 15


February 21, 2014 - DAY 15

The Sochi 2014 maybe near from over but the games keeps getting more exciting and the tensions build up for the athletes before the climax. USA's Mikaela Shiffrin won the Women's Slalom Run with the time of 1:44.54, beating two Austrian athletes. Meanwhile, Ukraine shined the Women's 4x6km Relay against the Russians and the Norwegians.

In the Men's Bronze Medal Curling Game, Sweden took the bronze against China at the score of 4-6. That's China 4, Sweden 6. In the Gold Medal game, Canadians stood as the victor after defeated the British curlers at the score of 9-3.

Two Canadian female athletes done a 1-2 finish as Marielle Thompson hailed as the victor while Kelsey Serwa placed 2nd.

In the Men's 500m finals, Victor An from Russia is the winner while in the Ladies' 1000m Finals, Park Seung Hi from South Korea is the winner.

Russian males became the dominant force after destroying the USA and China at the Men's 5000m Relay finals.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day 14


February 20, 2014 - DAY 14

It's been quite a ride for this day as the climax of the 2014 Winter Games draws near and things are shaking up for the athletes.

First up is the curling match and in the Women's Bronze Medal Game; Great Britain beats Switzerland at the score of 6 to 5, therefore the Brits snagged the bronze medal while in the Women's Gold Medal Game, the champions of curling come courtesy of the Canadians after they won the match against Sweden at the score of 3-6. That's Sweden 3, Canada 6.

Meanwhile in the Ladies' Free Skating, Russia's very own Adelina Sotnikova is the champion, beating the likes of South Korea's favorite, Kim Yuna, and Italy's own Carolina Kostner.

In the Men's Ski Cross Finals, the French got a 1-2-3 finish as Jean Frederic Chapuis placed 1st while Arnaud Bovolenta placed 2nd and Jonathan Midol placed 3rd.

Team USA scored a gold from the Ladies' Ski Halfpipe final courtesy of Maddie Bowman.

In the Ice Hockey match, female athletes from Switzerland got the bronze medal after beating Sweden at the score of 4 to 3 while in the Gold Medal Game, two North American countries clashed themselves in the game of hockey and the Canadians stood victorious against Team USA at the score of 3-2.

And finally, at the Team Gundersen LH 4x5km Cross-Country, Team Norway is the winner.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day 13


February 19, 2014 - DAY 13

While the climax of Sochi 2014 draws near, the competitors still vying for the gold medal and on that day, Ted Ligety from Team USA won the Men's Giant Slalom Run 2 at the time of 2:45.29 while in the 2x6km Women + 2x7 5 km Men Mixed Relay, Norway is the winning country. In the Women's Heat 4, Canadians Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse won the match, edging out against any female bobsledders from the USA.

The female athletes from Norway won the Ladies' Team Spring Classic finals while the male athletes from Finland won the Men's Team Sprint Classic finals.

In the Ladies' Parallel Giant Slalom finals, Patrizia Kummer from Switzerland is the victor while in the Men's Parallel Giant Slalom finals, Russia's Vic Wild is the champion.

Martina Sablikova from the Czech Republic won the Ladies' 5000m Speed Skating at the time of 6:51.54.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day 12



February 18, 2014 - DAY 12

In just a few days before Sochi 2014 concludes this 23rd of February, the battle for the nations continues as numerous athletes continue for the quest of scoring more gold medals.

Tina Maze from Slovenia won the Women's Giant Slalom at the time of 2:36.87 while Emil Hegle Svendsen from Norway won the Men's 15km Mass Start.

David Wise from Team USA scored another gold for the nation as he won the Men's Ski Halfpipe Final.

In the Individual Gundersen LH 10km Cross-Country Nordic Combined, Norwegians got a 1-2 finish as Joergen Graabak is the champion while Magnus Hovdal Moan placed 2nd.

South Koreans won the Ladies' 3000m Relay Finals at the time of 4:09.498, beating against every Western nations including Canada and Italy.

French snowboarder Pierre Vaultier is declared the victor of the Men's Snowboard Cross Finals while at the Men's 10000m Speed Skating, it's another 1-2-3 finish for the Dutch athletes as Jorrit Bergsma won this match while Sven Kramer placed 2nd and Bob De Jong placed 3rd.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day 11



February 17, 2014 - DAY 11

As the Sochi 2014 nears to its epic climax, the competitors are still heating up to go for the gold just for the pride of their nations. In the Women's 12.5km Mass Start, Belarus' Darya Domracheva is the winner while in the Two-Man Heat 4, Russians Alexey Voevoda and Alexander Zubkov were declared the victors. That's another gold medal for the Russians.

The USA Figure Skating duo of Meryl Davis and Charlie White won the Ice Dance Free Dance after nabbing the overall score of 195.52 points from the judges.

At the Men's Aerials Final 3 of Freestyle Skiing category, Anton Kushnir from Belarus is the winner with the score of 134.50 points.

The Germans were the winning team at the final round of the Men's Team Ski Jumping after scoring an overall 1041.1 from the judges.

The Men's Snowboard Cross Seeding was cancelled.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day 10


February 16, 2014 - DAY 10

European athletes are becoming the dominant force in Day 10 of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. At the Men's Super-G Alpine Skiing, Norweigian athlete Kjetil Jansrud is the victor with the time of 1:18.14.

The Swedish Cross Country Team won the Men's Relay 4x10km with the time of 1:28:42.

In the Ladies' Snowboard Cross Finals, Czech's Eva Samkova is the winner.

And lastly, at the Ladies' 150mm speed skating, it's another 1-2-3 finish from the Dutch as Jorien Ter Mors is declared the victor while Ireen Wust placed 2nd place and Lotte Van Beek placed 3rd.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day Nine


15th of February, 2014 - DAY 9

Continuing on the Sochi action where I left off; in the Women's Super-G Alpine Skiing, Anna Fenninger from Austria scored a gold medal after achieving a time of 1:25.52 while in the Ladies' Relay 4x5km, the Swedish took home the gold medal.

China scored another gold medal in the Sochi 2014 as Yang Zhou won the Ladies' 1500m finals while at the Men's 1000m Finals, Russia scored a 1-2 finish as Victor An won the match while Vladimir Grigorev placed 2nd place.

Also for Team Russia, Alexander Tretiakov won the Men's Heat of the Skeleton match with the time of 3:44.29.

Kamil Stoch, representing Poland, won the final round of the Men's Large Hill Individual with the score of 278.7 points from the judges and also from Poland, Zbigniew Brodka won the Men's 1500m speed skating.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day Eight


14th of February, 2014 - DAY 8

It seems that athletes from all over the European continent are becoming more dominant when it comes to going for the gold medal in various categories over the course of the Sochi 2014 games. The eighth day of the Winter Olympics is no exception as demonstrated by numerous Europeans such as them:

- Sandro Viletta from Switzerland is the winner of the Men's Super Combined Slalom
- Belarusian athlete Darya Domracheva won the Women's 15km Individual
- Swiss athlete Dario Cologna is the winner of the Men's 15km Classic Cross Country.
- Alla Tsuper scored another win for the Belarus as she won the final round of the Ladies' Aerials.
- UK's Elizabeth Yarnold won the Women's Heat Skeleton match at the time of 3:52.89.

Also on this day, Japan scored their first gold medal of this year's winter games as Yuzuru Hanyu won the Men's Free Skating after obtaining the score of 280.09 overall from the judges.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day Seven


13th of February, 2014 - DAY 7

So far, with seven days passed on the Sochi 2014 games, the competition's heating up for the participating countries. The winter athletes never run out of their steam when it comes to going for the gold.

Martin Fourcade from France is the winner of the Men's Individual 20km while Justyna Kowalczyk made Poland proud after winning the Ladies' 10km Classic with the time of 28:17.8.

In the Men's Ski Slopestyle Final, it's a 1-2-3 finish for Team USA as Joss Christensen placed 1st while Gus Kenworthy placed 2nd, and Nicholas Goepper placed 3rd.

At the Team Relay Luge competition, Team Germany took home the gold medal with the 2:45.649 lap time.

At the side of China, they did very well at Sochi as Jianrou Li won the Ladies' 500m Short Track Finals and Hong Zhang won the Ladies' 1000m Speed Skating finals.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day Six


12th of February, 2014 - DAY 6

At the Women's Downhill, Tina Maze of Slovenia and Dominique Gisin of Switzerland are tied and both won gold medals after sharing the same winning 1:41.57 time.

At the Pairs Free Skating, two Russian pairs got themselves a one-two combo as 1st place Russian pairs Maxim Trankov and Tatiana Volosozhar scored 236.86 points overall from the judges while 2nd place Russian pairs Fedor Klimov and Ksenia Stolbova scored an overall 218.68 points from the judges.

Team Germany is the winning country of the Doubles Run Luge, ousting the likes of Austria and Latvia with the time of 1:38.933. Also, Eric Frenzel won the Individual Gundersen NH 10km Cross Country, scoring another gold medal for the Germans.

USA's Kaitlyn Farrington won the Ladies' Halfpipe Finals and Dutch's Speed Skater, Stefan Groothuis, won the Men's 1000m.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day Five


11th of February, 2014 - DAY 5

Five days have passed since the Sochi 2014 games began and things are heating up in the frozen battleground of Sochi, Russia. 

Belarusian athlete Darya Domracheva cleared the Women's 10km Pursuit with a winning 29:30.7 time and a gold medal for the first time for Belarus in this year's Olympics.

The Cross Country games sees a huge margin set by the Norwegians as Maiken Caspersen Falla won the Ladies' Sprint Free Finals while in the Men's Sprint Free Finals, Ola Vigen Hattestad is declared the victor. 

The Canadians did very well on the final round of the Ladies' Ski Slopestyle Final courtesy of winning Canadian Dara Howell and 3rd placer Kim LaMarre.

In the Women's Singles Luge, the Germans scored a one-two punch as Natalie Geisenberger placed 1st and Tatiana Huefner placed 2nd. Not only that, another German scored gold but this time at the Ladies' Normal Hill Individual Finals. Carina Vogt is the winner.

In the Men's Halfpipe Finals, Swiss athlete Iouri Podladtchikov is the winner while in the Ladies' 500m Race, South Korean athlete Sang Hwa Lee is the victor.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day Four


10th of February, 2014 - DAY 4

German skier Maria Hoefl-Riesch is declared the victor of the Women's Super Combined Slalom after posted a 2:34.62 time and winning the gold medal for her fellow German athletes while two of the French athletes for the Men's 12.5km Pursuit did a good show on the spectators. Martin Fourcade placed 1st place with a 33:48.6 time while his fellow French Jean Guillaume Beatrix placed 3rd with a time of 34:12.8.

On this day, Canada scores big time as Alex Bilodeau won the Men's Moguls after three consecutive rounds and Charles Hamelin cleared the Men's 1500m Finals after posting his 2:14.985 time and won the gold medal.

At the second round of the Men's 500m Speed Skating, the Dutch done a 1-2-3 punch combo at the finish line as Michel Mulder placed 1st, Jan Smeekens placed 2nd, and Ronald Mulder placed 3rd.


Sochi 2014 Olympics runs until February 23, 2014 and as the slogan suggest: HOT. COOL. YOURS.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day Three


9th of February, 2014 - DAY 3

Matthias Mayer from Austria won the Men's Downhill while Slovakia's Anastasiya Kuzmina posted a 21:06.8 time and won the gold medal at the Women's 7.5km Sprint Biathlon. In the Men's Skiathlon 15km Classic + 15km Free, Switzerland's Dario Cologna posted a 1:08:15.4 time and took home the gold medal.

At the Team Ice Dance Free Dance, the Russians did a very good job on that portion of the Winter Olympics and they took home the Gold Medal. That's a score for Team Russia. 

On the Men's Singles Run 4 (the Luge portion of the games), a German named Felix Loch ousted the competition with an amazing 3:27.526 time, winning a gold medal for his German winter athletes while the final round of the Men's Normal Hill Ski Jumping for Individuals, Poland's Kamil Stoch scored an impressive 278 points from the judges and scored him a gold medal.

Jamie Anderson from Team USA won the gold medal for her win at the Ladies' Slopestyle Finals while at the Ladies' 3000m Speed Skating, a Dutch named Irene Wust blown the competition away with her 4:00.34 time.

Sochi 2014 Highlights - Day One and Two



At around 20:14 (8:30 PM) Russian Time since February 7, 2014, the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia under the "Dreams of Russia" theme. It's privet (Russian for Hello) to everyone took part of this year's Winter Games. February 7's Opening Ceremony consisted of 18 separate chapters, all of which amazed the spectators.

The day after the opening ceremony, February 8's highlights include a Men's 10km sprint Biathlon, Ladies' Skiathlon 7.5km Classic, Men's Slopestyle, and Men's 5000m Speed Skating, among many others.

The 8th of February, 2014, sees Norway gathered two gold medals; one by Ole Einar Bjoerndalen at the Men's Sprint 10km Biathlon, and one by Marit Bjoergen for the Ladies' Skiathlon 7.5 km Classic + 7.5 km Free. USA got their first gold by Sage Kotsenburg for the Men's Slopestyle Finals while in the Men's 5000m Speed Skating, it's a 1-2-3 finish for the Dutch. Sven Kramer gathered gold while Jan Blokhuijsen earned silver and Jorrit Bergsma won Bronze. Those three are Dutch and as I said, they already did a 1-2-3 finish at the Speed Skating segment of the games.
