Mazda New Flair Wagon (MM94S)

Following the launch of the third-generation Suzuki Spacia range, it didn't take long for Mazda to borrow one for its Flair Wagon equivalent.

2024 Mazda Flair Wagon

Starting at 1,541,100 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, the third-generation model features two different styles to choose from such as the all-familiar normal Flair Wagon and the stylish Flair Wagon Custom Style.

Apart from the revamped exterior design, the renewed interior features a wide array of convenient features such as the multi-use flap, independent rear seat slide, rear seat slide straps, and a personal table for rear passengers, not to mention lots of compartments to place, giving these new models plenty of uses in various situations.

The third-generation Flair Wagon's Mild Hybrid technology features an Integrated Starter Generator linked to a lithium battery pack collaborating with its fuel-efficient R06D 660cc engine. Thanks to this fuel-efficient measure as well as the HEARTECT platform, the all-new Spacia has 25.1km/L of fuel economy based on WLTC Mode standards.

The Flair Wagon Custom Style's turbo variant features Power Mode, which makes it more responsive on slopes or when merging onto the highway. It sounds great but the fuel economy is around 21.9kmpl.

For safety, the all-new Flair Wagon comes with a suite of safety features such as a Lane Departure Warning function, wandering alarm function, high beam assist, sign recognition function provided by its optional Omni-directional monitor camera package, advanced car departure notice function, dual sensor brake support, false start suppression, brake support, backward error start suppression, and more.

If you want a third-generation Spacia but the nearest dealership is a Mazda, this is your answer.

Starting at 1,530,100 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, the all-new, third-generation Suzuki Spacia continues to maintain its crown as Japan's most fuel-efficient kei minivan while donning its new and exciting ways and means to keep it afloat in the midst of the new normal.

In Spacia tradition, the third-generation model features two different styles to choose from such as the all-familiar normal Spacia and the stylish Spacia Custom that is now highly reminiscent of a Solio Bandit from a long time ago. Whichever Spacia you're on, you'll be greeted with redesigned looks that show not just proof of maturity but also how far the Spacia has gone since the first-generation model came out a decade ago.

The renewed interior features a wide array of convenient features such as the multi-use flap, independent rear seat slide, rear seat slide straps, and a personal table for rear passengers, not to mention lots of compartments to place, giving these new models plenty of uses in various situations.

The third-generation Suzuki Spacia's Mild Hybrid technology features an Integrated Starter Generator linked to a lithium battery pack collaborating with its fuel-efficient R06D 660cc engine. Thanks to this fuel-efficient measure as well as Suzuki's HEARTECT platform, the all-new Spacia has 25.1km/L of fuel economy based on WLTC Mode standards. It's still the most fuel-efficient kei minivan ever made and Suzuki still keeps its laurel intact.

The Spacia Custom's turbo variant features Power Mode, which makes it more responsive on slopes or when merging onto the highway. It sounds great but the fuel economy is around 21.9kmpl.

For safety, the all-new Spacia comes with the latest version of SUZUKI SAFETY SUPPORT, which is a suite of safety features such as Lane Departure Warning function, wandering alarm function, high beam assist, sign recognition function provided by its optional Omni-directional monitor camera package, advanced car departure notice function, dual sensor brake support, false start suppression, brake support, backward error start suppression, and more.

The competition tried messing with the Suzuki Spacia and they failed. The Spacia is still the most fuel-efficient kei minivan ever made and in this third-generation form, the title stands. With its all-new look, convenient interior, and improved efficiency, this is the Suzuki Spacia reloaded for the new normal.

My GT7 Log: Know Your Legends - Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak

Let's get to know about the legendary cars that are hard to get in Gran Turismo 7's Legend Cars not only because of their extreme rarity that appears once in a blue moon but also their outrageous price tag that takes almost forever to save one. Today, let's get to know about the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak Special, a compact SUV that morphed into a monster machine that became a Gran Turismo favorite since GT2.

Starting out in life as the Suzuki Escudo compact SUV, this monster machine competed in the 1996 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with Nobuteru "Monster" Tajima behind the wheel and won. Donning its extreme aerodynamics to help cope with its ultra-lightweight bodywork that weighs 800kg, the 2.5L V6 engine that was relocated aft of the front axle line for better weight distribution is bolted with two turbochargers, generating a monstrous 981HP of power and 687ft-lb of torque.

Time to unleash Suzuki's legendary monster machine around the Goodwood track and see if it's still the legend Gran Turismo fanatics remembered. Roll the tape.

It did it in 1m12.019s.

Back in Gran Turismo 2, this Escudo made them think they were invincible. Despite being overshadowed by the likes of the Red Bull X-car or even the SRT Tomahawk Vision Gran Turismo machines, the Escudo Pikes Peak is still the King of Gran Turismo cars because it's built for everything it can crush with its 4WD capability, be it asphalt, dirt, or even snow.

What other hard-to-get legendary cars should I drive next? Stay tuned for more.

Fifth-Generation Suzuki Swift

Fresh off the Japan Mobility Show, the all-new, fifth-generation, Suzuki Swift has arrived and it promises to be the most advanced Swift ever made for the age of the "new normal".

2024 Suzuki Swift
2024 Suzuki Swift

With prices start at 1,727,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, the all-new Suzuki Swift marks a radical shift for the brand's world-proven compact hatchback that was enjoyed not just in Japan but also across the Silk Road. From the streets of Tokyo to the winding roads of Switzerland, this world-proven hatchback has turned for the greater good.

2024 Suzuki Swift
2024 Suzuki Swift

First, let's take a look at the design and in a rather un-Suzuki way, the new front face saw the Suzuki logo positioned above the grille rather than into it that most of its predecessors done, making it easily mistaken for a Honda ZR-V. Apart from the questionable front face, it packs familiar-looking front lamps, rear lamps, and the recognizable silhouette that makes a Swift, well, a Swift.

2024 Suzuki Swift
2024 Suzuki Swift interior

The interior's heavily revamped for this new version and it comes with the nine-inch touchscreen positioned above the dashboard as well as a new instrumental panel with multi-information display, climate control, heated seats, and others. On the passenger side, this five-seater is as roomy as its predecessor and with the rear seats present it can still carry up to 265 litres of boot space but with the rear seats folded down, it can carry up to 980 litres of boot space, more than its predecessor so job done.

2024 Suzuki Swift
2024 Suzuki Swift

Time to dig deep into the performance side of the all-new Swift. Under the hood, it's powered by Suzuki's brand new Z12E 1.2L three-cylinder engine with available mild hybrid technology. The new engine produces 82PS of power and 108Nm of torque. Equipped with a new and improved CVT, it has a fuel economy of 24.5kmpl based on WLTC Mode standards.

The all-new Suzuki Swift is the first MHEV model to be mated to a manual gearbox, a five-speed one to be precise, and this gearbox promises 25.4kmpl of fuel economy, more than the CVT-mated model, which sounds good.

Coupled with the improved suspension and chassis setup, electric power steering, and the HEARTECT platform that adds lightness and rigidity, the all-new Swift has a turning radius of 4.8 meters despite its long wheelbase, making it easy to corner and behave like a European car. Give it 4WD and it's capable on taking on tarmac, gravel, or snow. Another reason why the Swift is a world-proven car.

As for safety, the all-new Swift comes with Suzuki Safety Support, a series of preventive safety measures such as traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, driver recognition, blind spot warning system, and others. It's compatible with the Suzuki Connect service where users can find their Swift or take advantage of emergency services in case of the inevitable such as accidents or car theft. It can even start remotely by smartphone as well.

A world-proven car not just in Japan but across the Silk Road from Peking to Paris, the Suzuki Swift has turned for the age of the "new normal", the first Suzuki Swift of the Reiwa era. From its radicalized looks, new interior, the new Z12E engine, and new technology, this is clearly the most advanced Swift ever made in this unstable world we live in and it tries to be as stable as stable should be.

Suzuki Landy (R90C/95C/A90C/A95C)

The Suzuki Landy is basically a Nissan Serena borrowed by Suzuki for people whose nearest dealership is a Suzuki. While waiting for the next-generation Nissan Serena to arrive, it seems the Suzuki Landy went for an abrupt full model change without waiting for the original Nissan equivalent? Why's this happening?

2023 Suzuki Landy
2023 Suzuki Landy

2023 Suzuki Landy
2023 Suzuki Landy

There's a clear explanation why Suzuki regenerated the Landy without waiting for its Nissan Serena equivalent, mainly because Suzuki stopped borrowing cars from Nissan due to Nissan's connections with Mitsubishi Motors. For this new model, Suzuki borrowed the fourth-generation Toyota Noah minivan, making it the first Suzuki-fied Toyota vehicle to be sold in Japan, although Suzuki's record of borrowing Toyota vehicles can be traced back overseas, mainly from Europe to India.

2023 Suzuki Landy
2023 Suzuki Landy interior

While seeing a Toyota with a Suzuki badge is nothing new, Japanese families will have their dibs on the first Suzuki-badged Toyota vehicle sold at home for people whose nearest dealership is Suzuki. Using the base variant of the Toyota Noah as the basis, the all-new Landy is surprisingly bigger than its Serena-derived predecessor, meaning it's a big win in the interior space as well, which fits up to seven or eight passengers. Like the Noah, the all-new Landy comes with a Power Back Door Switch, which is located on one of the slides, and the Free Stop Back Door which can be manually held in the middle position.

The all-new Landy comes with two powertrains to choose from. The M20A-FKS 2.0L Dynamic Force engine with Direct Shift-CVT produces 170PS of power, 202Nm of torque, and up to 15.1kmpl of fuel economy. The hybrid variant, meanwhile, uses a combination of a 2ZR-FXE 1.8L petrol engine, CVT, an electric motor (one for FF, two for 4WD), and a Li-ion battery. This setup promises 23.2kmpl of fuel economy based on WLTC Mode standards.

In terms of safety, the all-new Suzuki Landy uses Toyota's Safety Sense, a suite of advanced driving aids, as well as the Advanced Park feature.

With the new Landy making the switch from being a borrowed Nissan Serena into a borrowed Toyota Noah, looks like its abrupt regeneration paid off slightly big dividends in terms of space and efficiency. If you want a new Noah but your nearest dealership is the Suzuki dealership, this is the one for you.

Suzuki Spacia Base

The second-generation Suzuki Spacia range, which consists of the normal version, the stylish Custom version, and the utilitarian Gear version, is now offered with a new purpose-built version known as the Spacia Base.

2023 Suzuki Spacia Base interior

2023 Suzuki Spacia Base

Priced at 1,394,000 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, which is slightly more expensive than the normal Spacia but cheaper to own than the Spacia Gear, this purpose-built version of the second-generation Spacia is built for almost everything life throws at everyone.

For starters, the styling is similar to the current Suzuki Spacia Custom but the grille and bumper accents are smothered in black instead of chrome while the rear side windows are covered in panels, giving the Spacia Base an impression of a blue-collar worker who is ready for full-time, all the time.

On the inside, the Spacia Base works and feels like every other Spacia you've come across but because this is a purpose-built version of the second-generation Spacia, it features an adjustable multi-board where users can turn the Spacia Base into either a mobile desk, a neat little sleeper, or for sorting out deliveries if you're in a mood for Uber Eats or something.

Like most Spacia variants, the Spacia Base runs on a HEARTECT platform and is powered by Suzuki's Mild Hybrid technology featuring an Integrated Starter Generator linked to a li-ion battery pack collaborating with its fuel-efficient 660cc engine. In its natural aspiration form and CVT gearbox, fuel economy is around 21.2km/L based on WLTC Mode standards.

The Spacia Base comes with the latest version of SUZUKI SAFETY SUPPORT, which is a suite of safety features such as Lane Departure Warning function, wandering alarm function, high beam assist, sign recognition function provided by its optional Omni-directional monitor camera package, advanced car departure notice function, dual sensor brake support, false start suppression, brake support, backward error start suppression, and more.

The Spacia Base is ready for almost everything thanks to its multi-board feature that gives users the flexibility to do whatever means necessary while on the go, such as conferencing while on the go, deliveries, camping trips, and more. A real blue-collar kei car hero the outgoing type of person needs.

Suzuki Lapin LC

The Suzuki Lapin was updated for the 2023 Model Year with some minor tweaks underneath and apart from that, it has spawned a posh addition to the Lapin range. It's called the Lapin LC and it's the poshest kei car young Japanese ladies can't wait to drive.

2023 Suzuki Alto Lapin LC
2023 Suzuki Alto Lapin LC

2023 Suzuki Alto Lapin LC
2023 Suzuki Alto Lapin LC interior

The new Lapin LC, priced at 1,409,100 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, is the poshest kei car in the Suzuki lineup, and those who want to have a little haute couture on their daily trip to the metropolis should consider this the ideal fashion accessory that matches the ladies' personal tastes.

While the styling is nearly identical to the normal Lapin, the LC features a different front view that pays tribute to the Suzuki Fronte 360 LC10 of the late 60s. The rear view dons a specially-made badge to distinguish it from the normal Lapin. It's no wonder why they called it the LC because it pays tribute to one of Suzuki's iconic kei cars, whatever the reason.

Inside, the LC features specially-made seats, a quilted roof that is fun to touch, a specially-made steering wheel with dark brown faux wood and wine-red labeling in the middle, and a choice of two center panels; simple and chic. Like the normal Lapin, the LC features useful conveniences to store stuff, charge their phones, and so on, living up to its role as the ideal fashion accessory on wheels.

Under the hood, the Lapin LC is powered by an R06A 660cc 3-cylinder petrol engine with ENE-CHARGE, ECO-COOL, and Idling Stop. Now mated to a CVT gearbox, the Lapin LC delivers 26.2kmpl of fuel economy based on WLTC Mode standards. Not bad for an unrivaled posh kei car that is also as enjoyable to drive on city roads.

In terms of safety, the Lapin LC features a wide array of safety systems under the Suzuki Safety Support banner, such as Dual Camera Brake Support, Reverse Brake Support, False Start Suppression, Lane Departure Warning, Sign Recognition, false start suppression, high beam assist, and the most useful feature of all, the omnidirectional view monitor.

The posh kei car from Suzuki is here to give Japanese ladies something to match their personality with its styling, interior, and fuel efficiency that will keep them going until nighttime unless they're rushing for a midnight sale somewhere.

My GT7 Log: A cup of Cappuccino, you like?

In beverage terms, a cappuccino is a hot beverage consisting of espresso and foamed milk often served with powdered cinnamon and topped with whipped cream. In car terms, the Cappuccino is the name of Suzuki's kei roadster that is smaller than a Mazda Eunos Roadster and one of the ABC kei roadsters that gained popularity in the early Heisei years.

The ancient Suzuki Cappuccino returns in GT7 via Update 1.13 and fans of the franchise are delighted to see this icon back in the game so they can compare it alongside the Honda Beat, another 90s kei roadster that emerged from the early Heisei years. So, what's it all about the Suzuki Cappuccino?

Launched in November 1991, the Suzuki Cappuccino kickstarted the trend of sporty kei cars that was followed by the Mazda Autozam AZ-1 and the Honda Beat. Unlike its mid-engined rivals, the Suzuki Cappuccino is a front-engined, rear-wheel-drive roadster that provides near-perfect weight distribution. It uses the same 657cc turbocharged 3-cylinder engine from the Alto Works, generating up to 63HP of power output while mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Production of the Cappuccino ended in 1998 with no direct successor but it remained one of the all-time greats and a real collector's item for speedo boys around the globe.

Believe it or not, the Cappuccino appeared in one episode of the Initial D Fourth Stage TV series and it was one of the most formidable cars Takumi and his AE86 Trueno ever faced until his lights-off tactic made the Cappuccino driver in confusion and barely defeated it.

For a tiny little kei roadster that emerged from the early years of the Heisei era, it's rather impressive, judging by its noteworthy credentials as a small-but-terrible sportscar that can out-corner the fat cats on racetracks like classic Minis slipping through Ford muscle cars in touring car races in the past. It's no wonder why speedo boys worldwide are taking a liking to the Suzuki Cappuccino because with such size, it's almost easy to drive.

Speaking of which, to find out just how easy-to-drive the Cappuccino is, I went to the eastern section of Suzuka Circuit to find out if the Cappuccino really is one of the best handling cars in ages. Roll the tape.

After a quick lap with the tiny little Suzuki, the Cappuccino did it in a modest 1:12.547, which is a bit of a beginner's attempt as such but by demonstrating the Cappuccino's handling capabilities, it really is a big deal.

It's a shame Suzuki never made a 21st-century take on this Heisei classic to take on the front-wheel-drive Daihatsu Copen and the Honda S660 but since the S660 is dead now and the Copen is nearing its extinction, it would be too late for Suzuki to join the party.

Still, despite the signs of the times in the world of motoring, the Suzuki Cappuccino has shown the world that small cars can be as fun to drive like the big ones and it really is one of the all-time greats.

The Cappuccino is available only in Gran Turismo 7's Used Car dealership for a very limited time.

Suzuki Escudo Hybrid (YEH1S)

The fully imported, 4th-generation, Suzuki Escudo has been in the market for almost seven years, and just as we thought the whole Japanese neighborhood had completely forgotten about this compact crossover that is similarly priced compared to the Toyota RAV4, Suzuki decided to give the Escudo the electrification route. You're looking at the first-ever Suzuki Escudo Hybrid, except for one thing...

2022 Suzuki Escudo Hybrid

Don't let the hybrid naming fool you because, in reality, the latest update on the Suzuki Escudo is not really a full hybrid vehicle. In fact, it's milder than a full-fledged hybrid crossover but it's more than enough to give the Escudo the electrification status it deserves at this age of the new normal.

Although it looks and feels just like the current Escudo, the Hybrid variant with the ALLGRIP 4WD system is the only variant offered in this update and it's yours for just 2.97 million Japanese Yen plus additional costs.

So, what is this so-called Hybrid System the latest Suzuki Escudo's armed with? The 1.5L Dual Jet engine that produces 101PS of power output is connected to a 24.6kW drive motor and a high-capacity li-ion battery. Taking advantage of the ALLGRIP system, the Escudo Hybrid balances eco-driving and high running performance in any road conditions, be it tarmac, gravel, or snow. Mated to a 6-speed AGS, which combines the advantages of an automatic and manual, the Escudo Hybrid delivers 19.6kmpl of fuel economy based on WLTC Mode standards.

Despite being a hybrid, the Escudo Hybrid drives like an Escudo almost everywhere, although its suspension setup wasn't as sophisticated as the Europeans. Still, it's rather good enough for a compact crossover that is more than ready to take on another quiet Sunday drive outdoors.

The Escudo Hybrid features Suzuki Safety Support that comes with an array of advanced safety features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Deviation Suppression Function, Lane Departure Warning Function, Stagger alarm function, preceding vehicle start notification function, sign recognition function, dual sensor brake support, and false start suppression function.

Like it or not, the Escudo Hybrid is the only Escudo you'll be driving right now. Despite being average for a fully imported Suzuki crossover, it's worth a meditating experience to drive one on a quiet weekend drive to a nearby province with the whole family.

Available colors: Galactic Grey Metallic, Cosmic Black Pearl Metallic, Cool White Pearl, Ice Greyish Blue Metallic/Black 2 Tone Roof, Savanna Ivory Metallic/Black 2 Tone Roof, and Sphere Blue Pearl/Grey 2 Tone Roof.

Mazda Carol (HB37/97S)

Following the launch of the ninth-generation Suzuki Alto, the Mazda equivalent known as the Carol is not left behind as it follows suit to the Alto's regeneration that is ready to take on the new normal with its record-breaking fuel economy and simple design that truly reflects Japan's civilized society.

With an MSRP of 998,800 Japanese Yen plus additional costs, the all-new Carol is the reinvention of a modern kei car that will take on the challenges of the new normal. Although it remains compact as it should be, the new Carol features an adorable new design that suits its size and personality. When you take it on a Sunday afternoon drive at Hakone, the new Carol has a charming personality that soothes away your stress all the way home.

The interior, meanwhile, raises a bountiful of questions especially from those who have driven the previous model because the dashboard looks nearly identical to its predecessor. Despite the questionable dashboard, it still incorporates the "simple is best" mantra and it's slightly roomier than the previous model, meaning it still accommodates up to four people without worry. The same goes for the boot space as well.

Now running on the HEARTECT platform, the all-new Carol drives better than the previous model, and thanks to some reworking underneath, the minimum turning radius is now 4.4m Not only does it feel nicer to drive, it's soothing as well. It's easy to drive, hard to regret, even on a quiet Sunday drive in the woods.

The base Carol is powered by the R06A 660cc 3-cylinder DOHC 12V EPI engine with ENE-CHARGE that produces 46PS of power, 55Nm of torque, and mated to a CVT, it delivers a fuel economy of 25.2kmpl based on WLTC Mode standards. However, to get the most out of the new model, you can opt-in for the HYBRID variant which comes with a tiny WA04C motor and a Li-ion battery. This mild-hybrid powertrain grants you 27.7kmpl of fuel economy based on WLTC Mode standards.

True to its simple character, the new Alto comes with a Collision Damage Mitigation Brake and Pedal Mistake Sudden Start Suppression Device, making it a certified "Support Car S Wide".

So, if you need a ninth-generation Suzuki Alto but your nearest dealer is a Mazda dealer, the new Carol is within reach.

With the arrival of the ninth generation Suzuki Alto, one of Japan's most affordable cars, it is ready to take on the new normal with its record-breaking fuel economy and simple design that truly reflects Japan's civilized society.

Enough to outlast its main rival, the Daihatsu Mira e:S, which is almost a hundred thousand yen cheaper than the new Alto of course. Still, it's worth proof that when it comes to fuel-efficient vehicles, Suzuki still reigns.

True to its simple character, the new Alto comes with a Collision Damage Mitigation Brake and Pedal Mistake Sudden Start Suppression Device, making it a certified "Support Car S Wide".

The new Suzuki Alto is now built to tackle the challenges of the new normal with its new design, interior, ecology, and safety while retaining the same kei car feeling it pioneered. It truly is built by the 99% for the 99% and you are more than welcome to drive the new Alto to your heart's content. Bland but it's the joy of driving.

Suzuki Wagon R Smile

The Suzuki Spacia is a kei minivan that boasts the best fuel efficiency of its class, edging the likes of the Honda N BOX, Mitsubishi eK Space, and its main rival, the Daihatsu Tanto. Sadly, there's a new kid in the family that will overthrow the Spacia's title with its fuel efficiency and pricing. It's weirdly called the Smile.

2022 Suzuki Wagon R Smile

So, what's to smile about the first-ever Suzuki Wagon R Smile? Priced at 1,296,900 Yen, it's slightly cheaper to own than the Spacia but sadly, the Smile is not built to go after the ones mentioned so it's best to leave the competition mentioned above to the Spacia because the Smile is made to compete against the Daihatsu Move Canbus, which is surprisingly more expensive to own than this newcomer.

That's something this new tiny minivan can smile about but let's have a quick dive with this newcomer from Suzuki, starting with the design.

2022 Suzuki Wagon R Smile

Wider than the Hustler, the Smile features a much simpler design that is quintessentially Suzuki indeed. The round lamps look vaguely similar to the Alto Lapin, while the rear-view design looks like the Hustler. Overall, it really is a Suzuki kei car from every angle.

2022 Suzuki Wagon R Smile interior

2022 Suzuki Wagon R Smile interior

Checking the interior, the Wagon R Smile, despite being narrower and shorter than the Spacia, is still a spacious kei minivan that is as cozy as a simple one-story house you've rented from Airbnb.

On the driver's side, you can really tell just how driver-focused the cockpit is and with the HUD present, it's surprisingly high-tech for a tiny car like this. Looking at its side mirror, you'll be surprised that there's a side under mirror equipped on the Smile so not only you can look for objects on both sides but also the undersides as well. Thoughtful thinking.

Because the interior's longer than the Spacia, you'll have some space to stretch your legs. Sure, it can fit up to four people inside, but the boot is a different story. It can fit some groceries with the rear seats present but with them folded, you'll have plenty of ways to store. It's a small kei minivan but it sure packs some decent luggage for some simple jobs or from a small to-do list.

2022 Suzuki Wagon R Smile

Behind the wheel, the Wagon R Smile truly fits on Japanese roads like a coin in the piggy bank.

Running on the Suzuki HEARTECT platform, the Wagon R Smile features front MacPherson Struts with coil springs, a choice of rear torsion beam for FF models and an Isolated Treading Link for 4WD models, torsion bar stabilizers, rack and pinion steering,  and a choice of disc brakes for FF models and ventilated disc brakes for 4WD models. Such dynamics underneath made the Wagon R Smile as nicer to drive as a, let's say, a baby stroller with a baby sounded asleep.

Under the hood, the Smile is powered by the RO6D 660cc three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 49PS of power and 58Nm of torque. Mated to a CVT, it has a fuel economy of 23.9kmpl on the WLTC scale.

The hybrid variants feature the same engine but it's been bolted to a 1.9kW electric motor, li-ion battery, Idling Stop, and Eco-Cool, resulting in a fuel economy of 25.1kmpl on the WLTC scale. That's more than the Spacia's, of course.

As always, the Suzuki Smile features the Suzuki Safety Support suite of driver aids that will keep this kei minivan safe on all grounds.

Fit for Japanese roads like a true Japanese car, the Suzuki Smile is proof that kei cars are still in the game even in the age of electrification and because it's more fuel-efficient and cheaper to own than the Spacia, this is Suzuki's bargain car of the year, but don't get too jumpy on because like I said, the Smile is made to compete against the Daihatsu Move Canbus and because it's better to own than the Canbus, consider this another win for Japan's no.1 kei car maker.

Second-generation Mazda Flair Crossover

Looking for a second-generation Suzuki Hustler but stuck at the Mazda dealership? You've come in the right place because Mazda managed to borrow the second-generation Suzuki Hustler for their all-new Flair Crossover, which starts at 1,365,100 Japanese yen plus additional costs.

By the looks of it, the front and the rearview look pretty much the same as the previous model it replaces but look closely on the side and you can spot an extra window on it, meaning that it really is a new model and not a minor change whatsoever.

On the interior, the dashboard has three circles on it and that's something the folks from Mini should learn from it while making their next model but enough encouragement because while the new three-ringed dashboard adds a nice touch to the Hustler's new interior, it really fits through any kind of lifestyle they see fit. It can be a four-seater, a two-seater with the rear seats folded, and a nice little sleeper in case you forgot to bring a tent for the camping trip to the woods.

Running on a HEARTECT platform, the new Flair Crossover promises to be more lively to drive, safer, and more efficient than the previous model and they really mean it as demonstrated by its 4.6m turning radius. City car handling aside, the Hustler's optional 4WD system comes with Grip Control, Snow Mode, and Hill Descent Control, making it capable of getting itself dirty while taking shortcuts in case of traffic jams, which will make you look like a sweet potato when they see you taking it offroad online.

The new Flair Crossover is powered by a new 660cc R06D engine with mild hybrid technology, Eco Cool, and idling stop, and when mated to a CVT, it delivers a 25kmpl fuel economy based on WLTP standards for front-wheel-drive variants. On the turbo variants with the 660cc R06A turbo engine with the same fuel-efficient tech mentioned above, it returns with a 22.6kmpl fuel economy.

In the interest of safety, the new Flair Crossover comes with a suite of driver aids, which makes this kei crossover a certified Safety Support Car S rating.

Feel free to enjoy the Mazda version of the second-generation Suzuki Hustler any time you like.

Suzuki Solio/Mitsubishi Delica D:2 (MA37S/27S)

The Suzuki Solio or Mitsubishi Delica D:2 in case you went to your nearest Mitsubishi dealer, has been regenerated to its newest generation and whether you like it or not, the new model promises to deliver the same convenience delivered from its predecessors. Small on size, big on space, fuel-efficient, it's the compact minivan that fits through Japan's driving conditions in the midst of the new normal.

Starting at 1,515,800 Japanese Yen (or 1,883,200 Yen if you're in a Mitsubishi dealer for a reason), the new model still offers a choice of two different styles such as the normal and the more stylish Bandit/Custom. Whichever style you go for, you are still welcomed by its modest space and fuel efficiency that is worth questioning.

Looking through the exterior design, the normal Solio/Delica D:2 looks more like a first-gen Spacia Custom when you squint your eyes hard while taking a closer look while the Solio Bandit/Delica D:2 Custom looks more like a Peugeot SUV with some Genesis-esque headlamps on it. Either way, they're still as boxy as their predecessors and they're similarly sized as well, although it's now 20mmm wider than the old one. Good.

Because the new models are now wider than the previous model, you can expect some more room on the interior for up to four people to get themselves accommodated. While the new dashboard is a bit above average for the owners, its added width makes it slightly roomier for either single-child families, joyriders, or even deliverymen using it to deliver the goods to customers. This small minivan works with all walks of life, well, almost.

The new Solio/Delica D:2 still runs on Suzuki's Mild Hybrid technology that works in tandem with SUZUKI GREEN TECHNOLOGY. It's the same K12C Dual Jet engine producing 91PS of power and 118Nm of torque, while coupled with an Integrated Starter Generator, Lithium-ion Battery, an updated idling stop system, and CVT like the previous model. Fuel economy? An honest 19.6kmpl based on WLTC mode standards. Don't worry, they're not exaggerating like last time because this was proven in the real world, I believe. Sadly, no full hybrid on the lineup but why bother?

Both the Solio and the Delica D:2 are offered with mild-hybrid tech but if you're itching for the one with the normal K12C engine without the mild hybrid bits, you'd be better of with the Solio. Either way, in terms of dynamics, thanks to whatever the heck they've done, the new models now weigh over a ton so you might expect that the handling's suffered from the added weight but it didn't bother anyway.

Of course, you can still expect front MacPherson struts and an old-fashioned rear torsion beam as usual so expect the handling to be pretty average for a compact minivan like this but because it now runs on Suzuki's HEARTECT platform, the new Solio/Delica D:2 feels more of an improvement compared to the previous model.

The new Solio/Delica D:2 features a new version of SUZUKI SAFETY SUPPORT, which is a suite of safety features such as Lane Departure Warning function, wandering alarm function, high beam assist, sign recognition function, advance car departure notice function, dual sensor brake support, false start suppression, brake support, backward error start suppression, and more. It's the safest Solio/Delica D:2 offered for those who are willing to get back from another tough day at the office.

And there you have it. The new Solio/Delica D:2 is starting to feel like it's been improved despite the lack of a proper hybrid variant. With the added width, honest fuel efficiency, the added safety, and improved dynamics thanks to its HEARTECT platform, this tiny minivan's evolved.

Second-Generation Suzuki Hustler

Since 2013, Suzuki made an oddball kei crossover called the Hustler and it's hard to describe why the mini-me Toyota FJ Cruiser became a hit among young outdoorsy people across Japan. With the arrival of the second-generation model, expect big things to come on the all-new Suzuki Hustler.

2020 Suzuki Hustler

This is the all-new Suzuki Hustler, the second generation model, and it's yours for 1,280,400 (around $13,000) which is rather cheaper to own than its big brother, the Ignis, but before you get your hands on this nearly affordable kei crossover that loves to poke fun against the Daihatsu Cast Activa, let's observe a little about how much has changed since the previous model.

By the looks of it, the front and the rearview look pretty much the same as the previous model it replaces but look closely on the side and you can spot an extra window on it, meaning that it really is a new model and not a minor change whatsoever.

Speaking of all-new, have you noticed the new Hustler's interior? The dashboard has three circles on it and that's something the folks from Mini should learn from it while making their next model but enough encouragement because while the new three-ringed dashboard adds a nice touch to the Hustler's new interior, it really fits through any kind of lifestyle they see fit. It can be a four-seater, a two-seater with the rear seats folded, and a nice little sleeper in case you forgot to bring a tent for the camping trip to the woods. It's all about utility in such a little car and you can give credit to Suzuki for that.

Running on a HEARTECT platform, the new Hustler promises to be more lively to drive, safer, and more efficient than the previous model and they really mean it as demonstrated by its 4.6m turning radius. City car handling aside, the Hustler's optional 4WD system comes with Grip Control, Snow Mode, and Hill Descent Control, making it capable of getting itself dirty while taking shortcuts in case of traffic jams, which will make you look like a sweet potato when they see you taking it offroad online.

In the interest of safety, the new Hustler comes with the Suzuki Safety Support suite of driver aids, which makes this kei crossover a certified Safety Support Car S rating.

The second-generation Hustler may look the same as the previous generation model it replaces but this all-new model really ticks the right boxes of what a city car should and by taking it on the dirt course, this baby elephant knows how to roll in style and substance no doubt. Well done, Suzuki.

Mazda Flair Wagon Tough Style

2019 Mazda Flair Wagon Tough Style

The latest version of Mazda Flair Wagon has gained the new Tough Style variant days after Suzuki brought in their new Gear variant of the second-generation Suzuki Spacia kei minivan.

Starting at 1,635,200 Japanese Yen, the Flair Wagon Tough Style uses the same look as the normal Flair Wagon, this time borrowing some SUV elements to look tough on the outside much like what the Suzuki Spacia Gear looks like but what's on the inside remains the same as your basic kei minivan you used for work and for play. Whatever that means. On the inside, you will be greeted by its water-resistant seats and some jerry can-style glovebox while retaining the same room height and functionality that works like what the Flair Wagon works for you.

Like most of its brothers in the lineup, the Tough Style is powered by its Mild Hybrid technology featuring an Integrated Starter Generator linked to a li-ion battery pack collaborating with its fuel-efficient 660cc engine. In its natural aspiration form and CVT gearbox, fuel economy is around 28.2km/L on JC08 mode standards for front-wheel drive variants.

As for safety, it features a suite of safety features such as Lane Departure Warning function, wandering alarm function, high beam assist, sign recognition function provided by its optional omni-directional monitor camera package, advance car departure notice function, dual sensor brake support, false start suppression, brake support, backward error start suppression, and more.

So, if you need a Suzuki Spacia Gear of your own but too lazy to go to the Suzuki dealer and the nearest dealer you can get through is a Mazda dealer, consider this.
