- In the aftermath of a Russian aircraft shot down by the Turkish forces, causing tensions between the two nations, Russia is set to impose wide-ranging economic sanctions against Turkey. This includes the suspension of plans to build a nuclear plant in Akkuyu and of those to lay a gas pipeline between the two nations.

- Meanwhile, Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan demands the Russian government to apologize.

- In the third day of the hearing at The Hague, an expert witness for the Philippines' case against the People's Republic of China said that their reclamation and fishing activities in the West Philippine Sea caused "close to catastrophic" damage to the coral reef system.

- After several months of denial, Davao city mayor Rodrigo Duterte finally formalizes his presidential bid for the May 2016 elections.

- The first two units of FA-50PH fighter jets from South Korea en route to delivery for the Philippine Air Force took off to Clark Air Base in Pampanga.
