Second Generation Audi Q7

2016 Audi Q7

This is the brand new Audi Q7, and when they said brand new, they really mean it because what you're looking at here is the second-generation model of Audi's first sports utility vehicle that likes to tackle its opposition with whatever it can throw from its disposal. Starting at 58,000 Euros, the new Q7 features some of the newest features never before seen not just in an Audi but also the rest of the other cars but we'll talk about it later but first, the design.

2016 Audi Q7 interior

2016 Audi Q7 interior

At first glance, the new design isn't as pleasant as with the other full size SUVs because most full size SUVs of today trying to look as odd as possible and when people look at it, they do have one opinion in common. Yes, this new car look daintily odd and less charismatic than the previous model it replaces. Notice the squarish rear lamps? Looks like a child's toy where you'll have to put the correct shape but even though this is an ultra-expensive luxury utility vehicle, the new design looks cheap in my mind. On the interior, this is where the skeptics will eat their words because even though it's a discorded mess, it's more tech-savvy than the old model. You can also expect the Audi virtual cockpit instrumental panel that you get in newer Audis as well as Audi connect with 4G mobile internet, which sounds so nice.

But the tech fest doesn't stop there because for the new Q7, Audi introduced world's first features such as Predictive Efficiency Assist, Turning Assistant, and Exit Warning system. It is the first to adapt FlexRay optical fiber data bus technology, which takes advantage of all electronics as well as its new MMI, Adaptive Air Suspension, and tons of driver assistance systems.  It also comes with Avoidance Assistant, adaptive cruise control, Multi Collision brake assist, Modular Infotainment Matrix, and All-wheel steering. There are so many new features to list on the new Q7 but let's hope Audi's too sure about the gizmo overload because I might be terrified that some of its features are heavily compromised inside and out.

2016 Audi Q7

What about driving? Well, since this is an all-new car, the body is all new thanks to its brand new platform, new chassis, and a major deduction of 325kg in curb weight, making it the lightest in its class. Sounds like Boobsie's left the building from us and because with all that weight loss, the new Q7 now handles like an Audi A8, meaning all of its executive saloon feel is now enamored in this full-size SUV, and it's not even bad on the rough terrain it traverses.

Engine choices include a 3.0L TFSi engine with 333PS of power and 440Nm of torque, a 3.0L TDi ultra that promises a combined 18.2km/L of fuel economy, and a 3.0L TDi engine producing 600Nm of torque. All of the engines are mated with an hefty 8-speed tiptronic transmission. Bear that in mind that when it comes to speed and power, best be off with a turbocharged 3.0L petrol for a while but if its fuel efficiency you're after, you can go for the 3.0L TDi ultra engine because it gets you through the extra mile.

So, what's to like about the new Q7? Well, it's about the improved dynamics that handles like an full-size executive-saloon, an array of tech new to us, and its engine choices well balanced for any occasion. Things I don't like include its bizarre design, the new tech feels more compromised to us inside out, and it's somewhat expensive for a 58,000 Euro starting price. Now, what if you can compare that to the latest-generation Volvo XC90? This could be more exciting than re-watching Winter Olympics stuff...

Available colors: Carraraweiß, Tiefschwarz, Argusbraun Metallic, Florettsilber Metallic, Gletscherweiß Metallic, Graphitgrau Metallic, Karatbeige Metallic, Orcaschwarz Metallic, Tintenblau Metallic, and Daytonagrau Perleffekt.

Leopaul's Heaven and Hell: Some video games don't understand the past

Even this is a very very very old game, that game still making my pants wet. #perfectdark #xboxone #rarereplay #gaming

A few days ago, I bought myself a compilation of old video games for my XBOX One console called Rare Replay, and I am utterly enjoyed by the British-based video game developer's history lesson in the form of thirty greatest hits. For me, the games I have enjoyed playing the most on their greatest hits are the Perfect Dark series because they made my pants wet everytime when I go to bed, remembering what am I doing during hours of gameplay with these first-person shooters.

Thanks to Rare Replay, some people involved in the world of video games do very well when it comes to recalling their past achievements and show it to the new generation of gamers much like those classic Fisher-Price toys sold in most stores where parents remembered playing one in their toddler years and then show it to their kids. That begs me the question, do some video games understand their past feats...or not at all for numerous reasons?!

Ever since the XBOX One and PS4 were launched to the world two years ago, the words "Backwards Compatibility" is no longer in their vocabulary and that shocked most video game aficionados like you and I. In the past, we were able to play our old games in modern-day consoles not only for nostalgic reasons but to pass the time of our own. Yes, our PS3 consoles (depending on the model) can play your old PSX and PS2 games, our XBOX 360 consoles can play old XBOX games, the list goes on and on, but with consoles like the PS4 and the XBOX One, that argument holds no value anymore.

However, this year, the tables have been turned because back in E3, Microsoft announced that their next update to their XBOX One console will have backwards capability with almost all XBOX 360 games. Yes. You can play most of your old XBOX 360 games like your XBOX 360 versions of your favorite IDOLM@STER games, Ridge Racer 6, Beautiful Katamari, or any other XBOX 360 games you have on your XBOX One and record most of your favorite moments either snapshot or Game DVR. That is a wonderful feature but what about the PS4 per se? Well, sadly, the blokes from Sony rejected the idea because, well, they're not interested with their past games playing on their modern equivalents, but they did offer a feature where users can play PS3 games in PS4 via Playstation Now subscription but the games offered are very limited and they're just a bit pointless. There's almost none of your favorite PS3 games where you can share your favorite moments by pressing the Share button from your PS4 controller.

This is much like a similar problem that I faced with my PS Vita a few years back because when I played a certain PSX game or a PSP game in my PSVita and engage the special feature that can create a snapshot, it displayed a message saying I cannot create a screenshot on this game. What was that? Something needs to resolve this issue.

That's the problem with today's video games right now because for some, the past is no longer bearing with them and it will be best to have them wither away like the sands from the beach and decided to push forward to the future. Does forgetting the past makes them more interesting or less interesting?

Okay, enough with the console chitchat and into every video game franchises because with most franchises advanced and ready for the next generation, there are, of course, some are completely forgotten from the history books or not ready to adapt themselves to the new generation of gamers for numerous reasons we don't understand. Take this Katamari Damacy series, for instance, it has spawned six installments; two for PS2, one for PSP, one for XBOX 360, one for PS3, and one for PS Vita, among many others. We all enjoy playing as the Prince and his cousins rolling stuff big and small but sadly, we have no word from the Cosmos on when will they return. Looks like their little adventures had come to an premature end. Man, if only the folks from Bandai Namco could return the Katamari games, just for the PS4 if I'm hopeful.

There are some other video game franchises that couldn't adapt to the next generation of gamers for numerous reasons such as Crash Bandicoot, Syphon Filter (if the folks from Sony plan to reboot it), Suikoden, Castlevania, Project Gotham Racing, Monster Rancher, Dino Crisis, Tokimeki Memorial, the Shutokou Battle series, the .hack// games, name any video game franchise that stopped after making numerous installments. Couple of reasons why can be jotted down to lack of audience, lack of funds, lack of manpower, and many other reasons some installments from the past stopped after making numerous installments, and I think that's quite odd that even for big-time video game makers, they just let their glorious past works rot like they have no residual value at all.

There are some who are wished to have their past favorites be spawned in either an HD remaster or Definitive Edition. I once had HD remastered versions of my games like Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders, and Tales of Symphonia and with games like these, they sure know how to remember the past and that's a good thing. This whole HD remastering business is like remastering a very old movie and make it watchable to the new generation of viewers, it sounds like a brilliant idea but what's not so brilliant is the market size needed to pay for the development fee to create an HD remaster. One such example that I have encountered before is the Xenosaga trilogy. The sci-fi JRPG trilogy was released on the PS2 from 2002 to 2006 and with some gamers truly remember the trilogy for its graphics and the incredible storyline, they really wish that this trilogy would be remastered so they can play it with their newer consoles but sadly, the producers couldn't make it because it was expensive and it needed lots of manpower to make it possible. Pity, we just wanted to see some remastered versions for newer generations to see, and EA, if you're reading this, we just wanted to see a definitive edition of the Mass Effect trilogy complete with all the extras.

Reboots aren't a bad idea and such example is in the case of the Pokemon games, which the latest versions, the Omega Ruby and the Alpha Sapphire games on the 3DS, can trace back through their original GBA counterparts, the Advanced Generation years. The idea about a rebooted game is looking back in the past and resurrect it with some peppered features that its original counterpart couldn't had. One of my favorite examples of a rebooted game is the 007 GoldenEye game. I once played the old N64 version as well as my siblings because it was very enjoyable and because it was very enjoyable, it became a template of all shooter games thanks to its multiplayer. When the rebooted version of GoldenEye came out on Wii back in 2010 as well as its Reloaded versions in XBOX 360 and PS3 a year later, I had no words to describe it but it feels more tougher and more realistic than the original N64 version I used to have.

As gamers, looking back at the past is just one of the main reasons why we love playing video games and with the rise of next-gen gaming thanks to the PS4, XBOX One, and Wii U, it's hard to see one of our favorite franchises rising up to the challenge or give up. We are expecting Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain to arrive in our next-gen consoles this September, we are looking forward for an IDOLM@STER game in the PS4 in the near future, we are really hoping for a Gran Turismo PS4 (if they have the guts to make one), yes, some franchises really stepping up to the future, but if I had a lot of wishes for video game makers to adapt in the fast-changing world, my wishes include Sony to reboot the Syphon Filter franchise from the very start, revive forgotten franchises like the Suikoden RPG or the Dino Crisis survival horror games, bring back long-running favorites such as Katamari Damacy, Ridge Racer, Castlevania, or other games I know, and in the name of anticipation of the upcoming Bond movie, Spectre, give us a brand new James Bond game fit for next-gen consoles so we can drive that brand-spanking new Aston Martin DB10 by ourselves and I wanna see how our new M, Ralph Fiennes, looks (or sounds) like in a video game!

Anyway, this ends here, but what I will say before I go is that video game makers are never too late to recover their pasts because if its like deleted them from their recycle bin, they're gone for good and never come back for the new kinds of people who are willing to get their hands on.

Here's for the past, present, and future of video games.

Forza Horizon 2: Long Live The Roadster

mx5 (4)

No. You're not seeing things. This is the real deal. What you're looking at is the new and improved version of Mazda's lightweight open-top sportscar that captures the hearts of most car enthusiasts for over 25 yeas thanks to its simple recipe of lightweight body, small engine in the front, rear-wheel drive, and its fun-to-drive character.

mx5 (2)

This is the brand new Mazda MX-5, the fourth-generation ND model. It's yours to drive thanks to a free-to-download Mazda MX-5 Car Pack on the Forza Horizon 2 video game for the XBOX One console.

mx5 (3)

For the past 10 years of Forza Motorsport history, players from all over the world have enjoyed playing with their favorite generation of Mazda's lightweight roadster from the first NA model to the outgoing NC model. With the new ND model, this will give players an unprecedented access to the latest generation before rushing one to their nearest Mazda dealerships to buy one in real life.

This particular ND MX-5 comes with the one engine that Japanese car enthusiasts can wistfully hear it to their ears because it's not available to the Japanese dealerships; yep, it's a 2.0L SKYACTIV-G engine producing 155HP of power and 148lb-ft of torque. It's kinda unfair why this engine made it to the global market alongside the smaller 1.5L model but not Japan at the moment but even with a bigger displacement than what the Japanese had, it's still very small as promised. And because it's so small, it was counterweighted with its lightweight bodywork and improved dynamics, delivering the same Mazda Roadster formula that has enjoyed drivers for over 25 years. The more you drive with this latest model, the more you'll love about how enjoyable this model is.

mx5

It's a great job bringing in a Mazda car with SKYACTIV Technology in the world of video games because being Mazda's sportscar loaded with everything SKYACTIV in it, from the engine to the dynamics, they're built to be expendable, built to be efficient, built to be fun, and overall, built to be a Mazda. For me, I want to prove this new Roadster still has the same spirit that was endowed over the past 25 years and for that, I have given this car a special assignment in the form of a series of races in Nice.

mx5 (5) mx5 (6)

Of course, being in Forza Horizon 2, this all-new MX-5 is not come unprepared for the party with something to fit for the very occasion and I have done much of that. Now, for more golden-eyed viewers may have spotted that the theme in question is Uzuki Shimamura from THE IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls and yes, it fits perfectly well in tune with the times. If someone sees a man in his new MX-5 with Shimamu's face plastered all over, they are going to question the driver in question how in the name of all things bright and beautiful is possible. You'll find that out in the right moment...

Since this is a brand new car, I am resorting myself to a much difficult challenge to get to know more about the brand new Mazda MX-5 and because of that, I have decided not to improve its performance at all. That sounds bland but this is worth of a challenge if you want to know more how good the new MX-5 is.

Anyway, with the risky gamble all set, it's time to find out just how good the new MX-5 is in a series of races in Nice. Let's see how SKYACTIV Technology works even in here...

Even in untouched performance, the new MX-5 fared very well in the series of races even when faces rough scenarios only experts can handle the rest. I have to say, I am very impressed with this new model, and I am looking forward to enjoy this new model even more.

Huh? Have I just unlocked the Horizon Finale? Does this mean I have to take on the Horizon Finale for the second time? Wow... Looks like our work's almost done here...

Forza Horizon 2: Greeting for a Special Agent

db5

Aston Martin's DB5 remains one of the most iconic Bond cars ever made since its appearance in the 007 movie Goldfinger. Little did you know that when the Bond makers wanted this car to be in that film, Aston Martin rejected the idea. They will lend their car for a full price of 4,500 Pounds back in 1960's but the Bond creators decided not to because it's too expensive. They tried various cars fit for Bond but because of their desire of putting the Aston Martin in the Bond movie, the folks lend them a second-hand development car and the Bond people cost them five times more than the car itself to rig it with the Bond modifications. Such modifications such as bulletproofing the car, revolving license plate holder, mechanical tire shredders, forward-mounted machine guns, oil slicks, smokescreen, and our essential favorite, the ejector seat.

When Goldfinger was released in cinemas in the fall of 1964, it became a box-office hit and sales of the Aston Martin DB5 went through the roof, signalling the start of the wonderful collaboration between Aston Martin cars and the James Bond 007 franchise that span through decades and its recent appearance in a Bond movie on this car was 2012's Skyfall, featuring Daniel Craig as James Bond.

Here, in the world of FH2, the DB5 is not armed with the usual Q modifications, but what you get is a legendary grand tourer equipped with a 4.0L straight-6 engine producing 282bhp of power and a top speed of 145mph. Doesn't sound much by modern standards but it's a great car to drive for those who want to live a life of Her Majesty's deadliest agent who wreaks havoc through all parts of the world, stopping villains bent on world domination while wooing the ladies with his charisma. It maybe old but its still a fun car to drive in this game whether if you're in races or online mini-games.

db5 (2)

See those squarish markings on the DB5? I tried replicating the iconic Goldfinger Aston Martin DB5 as seen on the film but don't expect rear shields popping up or someone gets flung on the ejector seat. Oh no. Because I'll send this car on a championship I've booked in for this car in Sisteron and some usual Q modifications have been made...for competitiveness. No. It doesn't involve weaponry. It involves enhanced performance that can be set on an equal playing field against the competition.

Like all good James Bonds, I tend to disobey Q's promise to bring this car back to pristine condition but...forgive me Q. I have a race to win.

As Q might say, I have not only won the championship but I nearly wrecked most of the DB5's compartments. At least it's better than saving the car and lose the race. Happy now, Q?!
