Let's Do The News! (June 12, 2018)



- Today marks 120 years of Philippine Independence but in the middle of this Independence Day rites, President Rodrigo Duterte was heckled during his speech at Kawit, Cavite. This is the first time Duterte atended an Independence Day ceremony as president and the first he was heckled at a formal, pre-arranged event.

- Meanwhile, Filipinos in United Arab Emirates celebrate Independence Day with their proudest rendition of the Philippine national anthem. They showed up in various traditional Filipino wear to represent the country's diverse ethnic groups.

- China, yesterday, vowed to "seriously" investigate the reported Chinese confiscations of Filipino fishermen's catch at Panatag (Scarborough) shoal, adding that it has allowed Filipino fishermen to fish in the area “out of goodwill.” Last week, Chinese coast guards have been forcibly taking the best catches of Filipino fishermen at the disputed shoal, which is well within the Philippines' 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone.

- The FCC's controversial's Restore Internet Freedom Order is in effect, repealing most of the Obama-era internet principles, known as net neutrality. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai says that the controversial repeal would produce "tremendously positive" benefits for consumers but critics argued that it will slow traffic and hamper the competition. Pai argues the Federal Trade Commission will prevent "bad apples" from taking such actions.

- France is increasing its military presence in the Indo-Pacific region,sending warships through the South China Sea and planning air exercises to help counter China's military build-up in disputed waters.

- Nike confirmed it had stopped supplying Iran's football team ahead of the World Cup due to sanctions. A statement from Nike said the company was forbidden from supplying kit to the Iranian team as it prepares for its opening World Cup game.

- Audi will unveil the second-generation A1 on Barcelona later this year.

- Playground Games, developers of the Forza Horizon games, is now part of Microsoft.

- UBISOFT announced Assassin's Creed Odyssey, slated to launch this October 5, 2018. Set before Origins, players emerge to the Peloponnesian War of Ancient Greece as a Spartan mercenary and their choices will alter the storyline.

- CAPCOM announced BIOHAZARD RE:2, a remake of BIOHAZARD (Resident Evil) 2 game, coming this January 25, 2019. Players relive the story of Leon and Claire during the horrific Raccoon City incident but with new ways to play.

- Lindsay Wagner and Bond girl Lea Seydoux join the cast of the upcoming Death Stranding game.

- Check out the trailer for the upcoming Kamen Rider Build and Lupinranger VS Patranger films, hitting cinemas this August 4th.
