Ocean's 8

At the turn of the last decade, there was the Ocean's trilogy of films where Danny Ocean assembled an all-star cast of thieves sharing the same objective to perform an impossible heist against a casino mogul. It started out with 11 and then ended to 13, giving a total of three films featuring different A-list celebrities ready, willing, and able to get the heist done in a snap. Fast forward to 2018 and at last, the Ocean's films are back but not what you're expecting it to be.

Ocean's 8

Titled Ocean's 8, this so-called fourth installment of the Ocean's film series features a totally new direction, involving an all-female lead characters, while delivering the same heist scheme that the previous three films had. It features an all-star ensemble of Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, AWKWAFINA, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter. In this film, Bullock plays Debbie Ocean, who summons a ragtag group of ladies to perform an impossible heist during the annual Met Gala at New York City. Nothing could be prepared for this new kind of heist.

While this film signals the grand return of the Ocean's film series, it isn't as great as 11, 12, and 13, but for an all-female lead of characters, it sure is original and fresh off the hook. You'll have plenty of reasons why this new film is all perfumes and lipsticks while experiencing a new kind of heist, although if they were honest some say this heist film has transformed into a chick flick in the same way 2016's Ghostbusters were when they used an all-female lead.

In the end though, although it sounds downright feminist for a heist film, Ocean's 8 is slick, slippery, and smooth, just like the previous three films, and for getting the most fun out of this film, it really is priceless in every single angle and there's so much to appreciate this fresh new take on the Ocean's films, proving that less is more when comes to this.

My rating: 3.9 out of 5.
