- President Rodrigo Duterte explains that he is making sure that defense capabilities in Mindanao are strong as he said "I see dark clouds ahead" in his statement as he explained that he first has to make sure that the defense of the country is strong before he commits to other sectors, particularly the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises.

- The Liberal Party fully supported Vice President Leni Robredo as opposition leader against President Duterte ahead of the 2019 mid-term elections. Senator Francis Pangilinan, LP president, said “Vice President Leni Robredo is Partido Liberal’s chairperson. She is our leader in the party. She is our leader in the country.’’

- Former DIWA party-list representative Emmeline Aglipay-Villar has been appointed as undersecretary of the Department of Justice. Apart from Emmeline, Malacañang also appointed two other Guevarra recommendations as undersecretaries, namely, lawyers Adrian Sugay and Mark Perete.

- As all of the twelve boys and a soccer coach trapped in a cave in northern Thailand for almost three weeks were successfully rescued, families of victims were still waiting to be reunited with them. Right now, they're in the hospital and while they were recovering, the health ministry inspector said the boys were in "good condition" despite each losing an average of two kilograms of weight.

- The European Union urged China to free dozens of activists during a human rights meeting in Beijing this week, three years after a crackdown that jailed numerous lawyers and activists. The EU-China Human Rights Dialogue which ended on Tuesday came at a sensitive time for China, as families and activists marked the detention of hundreds of people in what has become known as the “709” incident on July 9, 2015.

- Britain’s data regulator has said it will fine Facebook half a million pounds ($660,000) for failing to protect users’ data, in an inquiry into whether personal information had been misused by campaigns on both sides of Britain’s 2016 EU referendum.

- PEKEMA expressed concerns over the rumor that the Pakatan Harapan government might scrap the Open Approved Permit that prevents other importers from slapping on significantly higher price tags on imported vehicles, according to reports.

- Bugatti will unveil their new hardcore sports car called the Divo on August 24. It will be limited to 40 units, each costing over five million euros.

- The new Mega Man: Fully Charged cartoon show based on the Rockman/Megaman video game franchise, will be showcased at next week's San Diego Comic Con.

- Gilas rookie Kobe Paras is joining the UP Fighting Maroons in the upcoming UAAP Season 82 alongside Ricci Rivero and Juan GDL.

- Swiss luxury watch maker Omega unveiled the limited-edition Speedmaster Ultraman variant, modeled after the watch as seen in the Return of Ultraman TV series since 1967 but now features a new black and orange striped strap, fitting the theme of the show's Monster Attack Team. It is limited to 2,012 pieces.
