- The Department of Education (DepEd) continues to partner with different agencies to ensure education in times of disasters and emergencies. To devise improved disaster resiliency measures in education, the DepEd and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) recently gathered education leaders and policymakers from Southeast Asian countries for the Regional Workshop on Education in Emergencies (EIE) and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM): Towards the Development of a Regional Guide.

- President Rodrigo Duterte is grateful for the latest PulseAsia survey results showing high approval and trust ratings, according to the presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

- The Philippines will begin negotiations on a free trade agreement with the United States in September, its ambassador to Washington said on Thursday, in a bid to expand market access for its agricultural products.

- An embattled FBI agent whose anti-Trump text messages exposed the Justice Department to claims of institutional bias vigorously defended himself Thursday at an extraordinary congressional hearing that devolved into shouting matches, finger-pointing and veiled references to personal transgressions. Peter Strzok spoke publicly for the first time since being removed last year from special counsel Robert Mueller’s team because of texts he traded with an FBI lawyer in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election. He insisted that he never allowed personal opinions to influence his work, though he did acknowledge being dismayed by Donald Trump’s behavior during the campaign.

- The UN Security Council strongly condemned recent violence in Haiti that left at least four dead and expressed support for the government's efforts to quickly restore order.
