Ford Ranger (P703)

The world-proven Ford Ranger pickup truck is now in its 5th-generation and this all-new version strives to be the world's best midsize truck that can tackle the likes of the Toyota Hilux and the Chevrolet Colorado.

Starting at $32,565 plus additional costs, the fifth-generation Ford Ranger continues to assert its world-class quality that makes the Ranger, well, a Ranger. Once and always.

Beginning with the design, the fifth-generation Ranger is more of a macho-sized version of its little brother, the Maverick, but unlike the Maverick, the all-new Ranger is still the macho man known the world over. From the bustling streets of the West Coast to the desert hills, this Ranger still asserts its Built Ford Tough mantra.

Step inside, the all-new Ranger features a 12-inch center touchscreen with SYNC 4A, digital instrumental panels, climate control, a B&O sound system, and a wireless charging pad, among many others. Like its predecessor, it's offered only in a four-door SuperCrew but when asked about the space, it is slightly more spacious compared to its predecessor. It even has a wider track compared to its predecessor, meaning you can now load a full-sized 'Euro' pallet flat in the bed.

The fifth-generation Ford Ranger is powered by a choice of a 2.3L EcoBoost 4-cylinder, a 2.7L EcoBoost V6, and a 3.0L EcoBoost V6, all are mated to a 10-speed automatic. The lesser one produces 270HP of power and 310lb-ft of torque while the so-called superior one produces 405HP of power and 430lb-ft of torque. All engine variants gave the Ranger a towing capacity of up to 7,500 lbs.

Depending on the variant, the Ranger is armed with the Ford Trail Control, five driving modes from Normal to Sport, independent front suspension with gas-pressurized shocks and a stabilizer bar, electronic shift-on-the-fly for 4x4 variants, electronic-locking rear differential, rear outboard mounted shocks, and increased track width, making it capable of handling the world's roughest conditions from the Scandinavian winter wonderland to a bridge over the River Kok.

The first-ever Ranger Raptor runs on the same 405HP 3.0L EcoBoost V6 but with a specially-developed 10-speed AT, a full-time 4x4 system with an Electromechanical Transfer Case, 10.7 inches of ground clearance, Ford Trail Control, electronic-locking rear differential, and Fox Racing shocks with Live Valve technology. With the signature Baja Mode set, the Ranger Raptor is ready to trailblaze through the Moab without going FUBAR. It's more than enough to crunch the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 alive in the open.

Asked about safety features, the all-new Ford Ranger is armed with driver-assist features such as Pre-Collision Assist, BLIS, Lane-Keeping System, Rear View Camera, and Auto High-Beam Headlamps. It even comes with a 360-degree camera, Active Park Assist 2.0, Pro-Trailer Backup Assist, Trailer Brake Controller, and Tow/Haul Mode on the transmission shifting, giving it better confidence behind the wheel.

The fifth-generation Ford Ranger continues to assert its world-proven credentials with its muscular new design, interior, performance, and technology that makes the Ford Ranger THE Ford Ranger, once and always. It's the official pickup truck of the new normal and whether you're ready or not, it's morphin' time, ladies and gentlemen. You're looking at the world's best Ford Ranger.

Forza Horizon 4: The meanest Ranger you can't have

While the rest of the USA delighted to the return of the Ford Ranger after almost a decade, a lot felt somewhat disappointed because while the Ranger is back where it belongs, there's one Ranger missing from its comeback list and that's none other than the meanest Ranger of all; the Ranger Raptor.

So, what's it all about the Ranger Raptor, the kind of Ranger we can't have because it's made for the overseas market where the F-150 Raptor's not available? As the only factory-built performance truck built from the Asia-Pacific region, mainly from Thailand of course, the Ranger Raptor is the true off-road truck made for the most hardcore of men who want to get through floods, rocks, and mountains without all the drama. To tell the truth, the Ranger Raptor is the main response for the speedo boys who spend their money slapping Raptor-inspired grilles on their current-generation Ford Rangers. Truly, a poor man's F-150 Raptor, I dare say.

Unlike the F-150 Raptor, which comes with the EcoBoost V6 petrol engine, the Ranger Raptor is powered by a 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel engine producing 213PS of power and 500Nm of torque. Not as powerful as the F-150 Raptor but that torque really made it sound beefy. Like its big American brother, the Ranger Raptor is mated to a 10-speed AT.

In addition to its toughened, off-road focused chassis, brakes, and suspension capable of tackling the beaten path, the Ranger Raptor features a Terrain Management System with six modes for various driving experiences, including the Baja Mode for high-speed off-road performance.

Having first experienced the Ranger Raptor, this toughened, no-nonsense version delivered some upsides and downsides to the driving experience. First off, the diesel engine may be sound beefy but it doesn't have enough power to outrun the competition and the 10-speed AT is a bit of a letdown to this engine. Despite being less powerful, the offroad capabilities really made the Americans very jealous, so jealous, they want the Michigan men to build one if Ford says so but for now, it's a no-go for the baby Raptor to roar through America's dirtiest jobs. It's a shame, really, but I can still pretend that this is just a normal Ranger modified to go down and dirty like its would-be rival, the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2.

Having done my little talk about the Ranger Raptor, I went to Fortune Island to do some Ranger things because between you and me, this un-American Ranger wants to turn the world upside down with its clever off-road talent and its Baja-ness to go down and dirty. If this truck wants one, so be it.

Man, why can't Ford get some cool machines like the ones offered overseas?

Should Ford brought the Ranger Raptor stateside, it would be the most affordable Raptor truck sold and if they bolted this one with something more powerful than the beefy but dismal diesel engine, it would go like stink but sadly, it's too little too late and Ford has no time to bring this monster Ranger to the Home of the Brave. Tough luck, amigos, but despite not being made it stateside, the Ranger Raptor is a little brother that does all the things just like its big brother. It may have some loopholes that need to be fixed but the Ranger Raptor is Built Tough redefined for today's world.

Ford Ranger (T6)

The previous Ford Ranger was the last of the American-made midsize pickup trucks ever made and because of customer shifts, the Ranger was axed from the lineup while the rest of the world have the current generation model, similar to what Japanese carmakers do when cars sold worldwide are not available in their home country. Thanks to you-know-who and as America shifts to more utlilitarian vehicles and with the rise of the Chevrolet Colorado, Ford decided to bring back the Ranger after eight years and it's about time Ford brought back the truck after its global success.

2019 Ford Ranger

The return of the Ford Ranger on American soil is good news for cowboys in the red states because having been around the world for eight years now, the fourth-generation Ford Ranger has landed Stateside so Americans can find out what are they missing since its eight-year disappearance.

2019 Ford Ranger interior
2019 Ford Ranger interior
So, what the Americans missing out from this Ranger after eight years? First and foremost, as today's midsize pickup trucks become more modern and macho, the Ranger keeps in tune with the times by delivering a muscular and modern design fit for a truck of that size. On the interior, it's surprisingly high-tech and comfortable for four or five people, which is great if you are trying to take your whole family to a Texas state fair or a road trip to the Grand Canyon with your mates.

When opted to a rear-wheel drive SuperCab, which is the base model of the new Ranger, it promises a maximum payload of just 1860lbs. The rear-wheel drive SuperCrew can do 1770lbs but whichever Ranger you'll choose, they're more than the payload limit set on the reborn Toyota Hilux, of course, therefore the Ranger wins.

2019 Ford Ranger
The Ranger's sole engine is a 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. This engine produces 270hp of power, 310lb-ft of torque, 7500lbs of towing capacity, and combined fuel consumption of 23MPG for rear-wheel drive and 22MPG combined for four-wheel drive. That makes the Ranger more competitive than its chief rival, the Chevrolet Colorado.

When opted with the FX4 Off-Road Package, it features off-road monotube shocks, off-terrain tires too much to bear for the LTO, electronic-locking rear differential, and other exclusive features as well as Terrain Management System and Trail Control, the Ranger really stays true to the Built Ford Tough promise, meaning it has the guts to take on any challenge it come across, even in times when southern states are experiencing extreme weather that can flood a street in an instant.

Unlike the competition, the Ford Ranger offers a wide range of driver-assist technologies under the Ford Co-Pilot 360 banner such as BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane-Keeping System, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Auto High-Beam Headlamps, and Rear View Camera. They're all standard so you won't worry a thing when the next time you are setting off to a faraway neighborhood delivering stuff to potential customers and come back home to take kids to the mall or the playground.

The Ford Ranger starts at 24,300 US Dollars for the SuperCab while the four-door SuperCrew starts at 26,520 US Dollars, which is surprisingly as affordable as a now defunct Ford sedan. Now this is reasonably priced for a good-looking American pickup truck that made a comeback on American soil after almost a decade now. So, there we are, after almost a decade of disappearance, the return of the Ford Ranger really means business for this midsize pickup truck as it tries to pick up where the old Ranger left off and as more and more Americans are making the shift to more utlilitarian vehicles in the case of crossovers and trucks, the Ranger's fully prepared to cater the needs of the American public once again. Now that is the long-awaited comeback the Americans begged for.

FH3 Blizzard Mountain: From Storm to Slush

Once the offroad hero that survived Storm Island from the previous installment, the Ford Ranger T6 Rally Raid returns to take on a brand new challenge; survive Blizzard Mountain and make it out alive just like what happened back in Storm Island.

This is what it known to be a specially-prepped version of the said pickup truck that is no longer for sale in America. While this is fully-prepped to take on the most punishing terrain just like what it did during the Paris-Dakar, it comes with a race-prepped 5.0L engine developing 349HP of power and 413lb-ft of torque. Thanks to its experience back in Storm Island in the last installment, it shouldn't be a hunch for a tough, un-American, American pickup truck to take on the extremes, especially in a middle of a polar vortex in nightfall, which is very scary to me but not for this one.

Although this Ranger is brave and tough enough to take on extreme circumstances, I'm not sure if I can make it out alive from a heavy snowfall in Blizzard Mountain but this is no time for doubts because it's time for me and the Ranger to do something crazy in the middle of a snow warning, all in the name of surviving Blizzard Mountain from dusk till dawn.

This is going to be one heck of a ride, folks...

Having faced death and lived to tell about it, the Ranger survived Blizzard Mountain just like what it did back in Storm Island a few years ago. Mother Nature may sure unleash everyone's worst nightmares but for the Ranger, it's not afraid to take on them. Now that's BUILT TOUGH.

FH2 Storm Island: The Island Finale

With 12 championships cleared during my survival on Storm Island, looks like I have finally gained access to the one thing most daredevils must accept in order to be crowned as the Island Champ; the Storm Island Finale. The finale is a long, 2-lap, offroad, course and the objective is simple; win the race while surviving the harsh terrain that will put your offroad abilities to the test. Although the weather isn't what you called grim, the elevation and the offroad conditions will surely put your driving skills to the test and if you win this finale, you are sure enough to say that you've survived Storm Island.

ranger

For the finale, I have gone for the Ford Ranger T6 Rally Raid extreme offroader and there is one major reason why I chose this for the finale. Sure, it maybe the un-American Ford Ranger because this truck sold in some parts of the world except the US, but this extreme Ranger is what gave me the start on this quest for survival. The Ranger T6 Rally Raid started this journey and now it wants to end it like every great hero of an epic adventure. I have high hopes for this machine but first...

ranger (2)

To prepare for the final onslaught, some major improvements have been made to keep the Ranger competitive against any other opponents it will face on the Island Finale and for some added flavor, I even whipped up a little design for the Ranger. Yep, it's themed after Cinderella Girls' Riina Tada, just to give it a little "Rock of Mind", if you know what I mean.

Anyway, with preparations complete, it's time for me and my Ranger to take on the final race in Storm Island but the opponents I'm facing right now are not what they seem to be because I might be expecting four-door saloons, crossovers, and rarely exotics joining the fray. Even though this is an off-road capable machine, this Ranger is heavier than the rest so it's best for me to stay on top as long as I reach the finish and not allowing every single one rival slip past me. If one slipped past my blind spots, I have to take some creative measures to overtake it and defend to the very end.

Because of the elevation, jumps are imminent as well as potential car damages that can affect the car's performance, should the damage setting is on the Simulation. If you're experiencing loss on power, keep going and watch your back!

Okay, no time for more explanations because it's time to hit the deck and survive the final onslaught!

Can't believe most of the Jerries are getting the better of me, but nevertheless, I am alive and I am victorious. I have won the Storm Island Finale with bravery and confidence, no doubt.

I have finally survived Storm Island and now, I kept thinking....what's next? Looks like my survival in Storm Island is finally over but not for me because I still had a lot of mopping up to do while driving in both the Horizon Festival and Storm Island.

This journey's over but the story never ends...

FH2 Storm Island: Welcome to Storm Island

There's a new challenge awaiting for me and this new challenge takes me on a brand new location where speed is no longer the issue, well perhaps some, because toughness and survival are the main course and if you want to achieve this kind of goal, you have to be the toughest to survive the most challenging place ever told. Welcome to Storm Island.

Forza Horizon 2 Storm Island is an XBOX One-only expansion and as the name suggests, you have to survive the harshest weather conditions and the most unforgiving terrain in order to become the Island Champion. There are new kinds of races you can find on Storm Island such as Brawl, Rampage, Extreme Cross Country, and the Gauntlet. There are more challenges to take on here and if you're tough enough to take on Storm Island, this might do the trick if you're looking for some more challenges. It's available to purchase at the XBOX Live marketplace.

ranger (2)

Kicking off my survival of the fastest journey is this 2014 Ford Ranger T6 Rally Raid, a specially-prepped version of the said pickup truck that is no longer for sale in America. While this is fully-prepped to take on the most punishing terrain just like what it does during the Paris-Dakar, it comes with a race-prepped 5.0L engine developing 349HP of power and 413lb-ft of torque. It's yours to keep during your maiden voyage at Storm Island and on my maiden voyage, I'm taking on the first championship of this new location and yes...extreme weather occurs even in nighttime. Scary!

A heavy rainfall will kill me at the dead of the night but I managed to survive my first challenge. Although I might be expecting another threat of a heavy rainfall, I can't rest in my laurels here because I only got 11 more championships to complete to access the Island Finale.

For now, I'm taking myself a well-deserve rest before the next big one happens. Sigh...

Final Ford Ranger sold to Orkin

Production of the Ford Ranger has come to an end this month and the final Ford Ranger unit is sold to Orkin, a pest control company. Orkin told that they have enough Ford Rangers in their arsenal and since the Ford Ranger is declared "DEAD" (as in, discontinued), the company will find a replacement for the Ford Ranger when that time comes.

Guess the Ford Ranger is officially gone now with no direct replacement because Ford has no room in the midsize pickup category, whereas General Motors has room for the 2013 Colorado soon.
